Whenever i attempt to enter the arena or the dark brotherhood sanctuary it exits to desktop, on one NPC there was a "WTF I'm a missing mesh" yellow spiky blob, and also some of the clothes are missing textures on NPCs where they just have invisible legs, etc..any help?

Do you use BOSS and Wrye Bash? If not, why not? 'WTF symbols, as you have found out, are missing meshes, which means that you have a mod or mods that are not installed correctly. If you use OBSE, you can find out which mod/s the missing meshes are from with FormID Finder or RefScope. The first step to avoiding this is to read installation instructions very carefully. BOSS will help by sorting your load order to minimise or prevent conflicts. Bash will tie everything together by importing and merging your mods where appropriate.

as i said in a post just then (can you tell i'm a noob) i didn't realise those mods existed, so if i use them they will sort out my game? thing i'm worried about is the fact i didn't know you had to backup your meshes and stuff before modding so i am hoping i don't have to reinstall etc...

Take one step at a time. No software is going to magically "sort out your game" if you don't take the time to learn how to install and use mods, including utilities like BOSS and Wrye Bash. So, first things first:

To get a completely clean install, follow Bben's reinstall procedure. This will give you a clean slate, so that past tribulations do not hamper your learning curve. Once you have reinstalled, including any patches and DLC, install BOSS.

Next, install Wrye Bash following Smooth613's instructions:

You need to ensure you properly install Wrye Bash and the Python Libraries. Proper procedure is as follows.

* Install WryePython03a from the Wrye Bash page here on TESNexus

* Install Wrye Bash 275 from the Self-Installer

* Update to Wrye Bash 287 by overwriting the Oblivion\Mopy folder.

* Finally, Update to Wrye Bash 290 by again overwriting the Mopy folder.

* Go to your Oblivion Mopy folder and create a shortcut for Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw and send to desktop.

* You're done! Double click the shortcut and Wrye Bash should launch and you're good to go.

Wrye Bash v291 will be released as a full Self-Installer version and will eliminate many of the above steps. It's currently in BETA and it's working very well, I've had virtually no problems with v291. The full release to the public should happen in the near future so keep your eyes open for it.

The Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide for Newbies is also and excellent way to get your hands dirty with Wrye Bash. Check it out!

If Wrye Bash fails to start or you are still having issues, you need to post the bug dump information here or in the Official Thread @ BethSoft for someone to look over.

Good luck!

Now, the key thing to remember when playing Oblivion with mods is to ALWAYS run BOSS, then rebuild your Bashed Patch every single time you install, remove or edit a mod -- EVERY SINGLE TIME! Providing you follow installation instructions for mods carefully, that should sort your problems out.
