Demon88
If all you want are ornamental dragons, maybe someone could retexture the butterfly - possibly like a "fairy dragon" like in old skool D&D? Then the animations would be done already? can you resize it and make it fly higher? if so then cant that be done for the time being?
insanemainframe
I surely can't, but maybe someone else could.
Vagrant0
If only it was that simple. Seriously, you don't quite understand the situation. For starters, there aren't a whole lot of people even capable of making new models (less than 30 throughout the known community), let alone models that are capable of animation (maybe 3 or 4). Of them, most, if not all, are busy with their own projects. Secondly, the understanding of animation with oblivion is very little. Even trying to use an existing animation with a new model would take a significant effort. Then you have to realize that you need more than 1 animation to work with the model. Since animations which come from different creatures have different reference points (that determine what is moved) trying to get animations from two different creatures working would be very difficult, and probably create many errors. Currently, it is impossible to do in any reasonable manner. Wait another 6-10 months, and try again.
WarKirby3333
Civilisation 4 uses KF files for it's animations, and many people have made new animations for it Maybe study of Civ could help the oblivion modding community? WarKirby

There is, however, a new critter tutorial on the CS Wiki that can be used to rig a new mesh to an old skeleton: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...ture_Meshes_101
insanemainframe
Yeah, I was going to reply to Vagrant that maybe it would be too difficult for him, but I know of at least 4 creatures that were created for the game using the frames and animations from ingame creatures and then doing a retexture and remeshing for it. Larger, nonflying dragons was one that was done, using the Deadroth stuff...
GBHis
Just thought that I would add a little to Vagrant0's post: Then you have to realize that you need more than 1 animation to work with the model."More than 1" is a bit vague. Around 30 is closer. Even trying to use an existing animation with a new model would take a significant effort.I've done this myself, and I spent many hours (~40) learning it -- and troubleshooting. When you're done, it works. But in most cases it looks bad, in some cases not-so-bad-but-still-not-fantastic. For starters, there aren't a whole lot of people even capable of making new models (less than 30 throughout the known community), let alone models that are capable of animation (maybe 3 or 4).For the first number, let's say less than 60 instead. (Many of us keeps it a secret - to prevent being spammed with requests ;) - Oh, d'oh. Stupid mouth o' mine.)Let's correct the second one to 12. I've seen/met/*uhm. Talked to, no, chatted with* more than 4, anyway. :)

WarKirby3333
I found this tutorial for importing a dragon, with animations, into Oblivion. There's a video at the bottom of the page to prove it works. http://www.niftools.org/wiki/index.php/3ds...ials/Conversion I'm still learning basic modelling so there's no way I can do this, but maybe Peregrine will find it useful. Must... get... copy... of... Max9... Stupid lack of Blender support. Seriously, as soon as I've saved the money, I am DONE with open source.
