FrazaFraze
Hey guys, this is especially to Fallout building modders. I'd really like to know why Fallout new Vegas building mods don't work on the xbox360. I'm particularly looking at the Fallout New Vegas underground armory. I think the author is danthegeek, however I saw it on YouTube by DARKFIREGAMING. I understand these types of mods are simply not avaliable to xbox360 gamers but I'd like to know why. If you type up " Fallout New Vegas Mods for Xbox360" you will probably get videos and logs telling you you can upload your saved file to your computer and mess with your inventory items. But you can't get these kind of Mods to your saved file...why? why can't you just upload your saved file to your computer and install the Mod just as you would do any other? I really want these kinds of Mods... and I really only want this particular one I watch the same video almost everyday and it started with the fallout3 underground hideout Mod. I just don't see why this isn't possible to achieve. Isn't there at least one way, with all those modding programs out there, like Modio or Winrar in addition to the Xbox software like Xport or Xplorer360 to get the Mods over to the console? I have never made an attempt at this first because I don't have FONV just yet, i'll be getting it at christmas and second because so many people tell me it isn't possible. So even if right now there isn't a single way to move these sort of Mods to the Xbox couldn't at least one of you crazy Modders out there make it possible? So when one of you tells me it can't be done on the Xbox, what is it like playing on the PC? does it function as smooth as a console? are there any type on controllers so you don't have to use the arrow keys or, W,S,A,D keys? I'd really really appreciate some feedback on this topic. thanks

As far as I know, its an issue of software - you wouldn't expect a PS3 game to run on Xbox or vice-versa type deal. I may be off or entirely wrong on that, however. Performance wise, if you have to ask the difference between xbox and PC, you are probably lacking the computer hardware to run it on PC as "nicely" as it would on a console like the 360. High performance PCs will outdo the consoles in both aesthetics and performance, but can also run into far more problems. People tend to pick the PC for the sake of its modding as you can't quite get the same experience on the consoles. While there are controls that can be purchased to use on the PC, I think most PC Gamers would argue that the WSAD system is superior for the FPS style gaming, as you can't be nearly as precise with a controller as you can with the mouse/keyboard setup. bben46
Bben46's FAQ, Can I use the mods on my 360? Or PS3? Short answer, No. Long answer. The file structures between the 360/PS3 and PC are totally different. Even if you could get a mod made for the PC into the 360/PS3 it won't work. To get it to work, you will have to rewrite the operating system of the 360/PS3 first, then rewrite every mod to work on that new operating system. Then, the maker of the 360/PS3 doesn't want you to do that. If you modify anything in it, they will block you the next time you go on their site. (read their terms and conditions) They make their money selling you new games and not by allowing you to use free mods. Yes, there are sites that will tell you how to modify your 360 or PS3 so it can use mods. However, it is not a simple process and involves voiding your warranty, and the terms of service you agreed to when you first got the thing. - and risks turning your expensive console into a nice looking paperweight. There are currently very few working mods for Oblivion/FO3 available for the hacked consoles. And, the first time your 360 connects to the MS site - your particular box is banned forever. Even if you unhack it. (Check recent xbox news on Microsoft banning nearly a million xboxes with “No recourse” for "hacking them".) Sony has a similar policy regarding PS3, just not quite as draconian. You agreed to this when you signed up! Read the fine print -Paraphrased: You have the right to use it only in the way they want you to use it and if you ever try to use it in any other way than the one they give you, they have the right to shut you down. If you need a paperweight, go down to the building supply and buy a brick - it's cheaper. My advice, start saving now for a good PC - don't get a cheap one. FrazaFraze
Thanks for the feedback so quickly. I really appreciate it. I'm definitely considering a PC that's compatible and runs nicely with intricate games such as Fallout New Vegas. I guess the only thing holding me back is I picture the game not functioning properly like taking to long at loading screens or mishaps were the game gets glitchy and freezes up on me when I'm doing a normal part of the game or anything else that could happen I mean there is tons of different possibilities but then again, these problems could probably occur on consuls just as easily. I guess what I need to be convinced is someone to get back to me on the topic with some history of their experience through PC gaming, what Modding programs should I use? what brand of computer should I purchase? are stationary computers a better buy than laptops? would my DELL computer work just fine or would I need to invest a little more. Thanks for the help, I feel like I'll do whatever it takes to play with those Mods so I honestly appreciate the help on my topic. Oh and do more Mods you have on the system at once effect the overall game play or functionality with the system? Also, one more thing would be great, I'd like to know how the authors make the Mods. I've heard some talk here and there about a self Modding program called G.E.C.K. The Garden of Eden Creation Kit seems to be the key to a Modder's success. If someone could point me towards some information on that I'd appreciate it. Thanks again for the help.
bben46
Go here to see if your computer can run the gamehttp://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ You will find the various game we support Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, OblivionFallout3 as Fallout3 PC Dragon Age listed as Dragon age Fallout New Vegas as Fallout: New VegasMorrowind is not listed, However if you can run Oblivion at all it should run well on your system. GECK is a free download from the Bethesda website. It is needed to create any new mods, but not to play those we have here. As far as Desktop vs Laptop everyone has their own opinion. I prefer a desktop but I build my own and change the hardware often which you cannot do with a laptop. The minimum hardware specifications will barely run the game. To get good performance you will need better hardware than the minimum. With decent hardware the difference between PC and console will boggle your mind. secksegai
PC Gaming isn't for the faint of heart. I grew up on consoles myself, and the biggest factor that comes to mind is ease of use. With a console, while you lack the ability to "hack" and modify, you also have a lot fewer headaches. Console games often are better polished as not only are they easier to test (no software/hardware conflicts and all that), the end user has little recourse when a problem arises, so the end product must be as stable as possible. Thanks to the internet, newer consoles can be patched rectifying errors that were missed. PC gamers on the other hand tend to be more knowledgeable about their systems because the nature of them requires them to be. It's impractical (and effectively impossible) to test everything on the myriad of configurations. While I feel PC games offer a better experience overall, its been the driving factor in my technical knowledge from all the problems I've come across. Games like Fallout and Fallout 2,Doom, Tie Fighter, Half-Life, Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Command and Conquer are what got me into PC Gaming. Ironically enough, those games were far less troublesome to get running stable. These days, newer games tend to push the hardware limits, so being unfamiliar with PC gaming will generally lead most people to frustration. When I was doing tech support regularly, a common issue for far too many people is that their computer didn't meet the minimum requirements. Truth be told, you want to be as "above" minimum as possible for the best experience. As a gamer, desktops are generally recommended because of they're far more upgradeable. Laptops can achieve or surpass most desktop setups, but are more expensive and you won't be able to upgrade key components (like video and power supply) to keep it up to date. Your typical brands generally aren't ideal for gaming, and most PC gamers build their own rigs from "scratch". There are brands like Sager and Falcon Northwest that focus on gaming hardware, but they're also costly. Alienware used to be a big player, but since being purchased by Dell their reputation has fallen a bit. Keep in mind that the hardware between consoles and pcs is pretty similar - a pc with "equivalent" hardware to a console wouldn't perform as well because the software isn't streamlined for the purpose of gaming. However, PCs with the right setup can have superior performance - as said above the difference "will boggle your mind".
BooneoftheWasteland
My advice, start saving now for a good PC - don't get a cheap one. That's exactly what I did and have been on the nexus for almost 2 years since. Edited December 18, 2010 by Boone of the Wasteland
FrazaFraze
I want to give a special thanks to the nexus staff for helping me out with my questions. I'm probably going to try out PC gaming and see if the benefits of computers are worth it. Thanks for the feedback and help. -Topic Closed
