Adding new topics for diologue in Quest won't work

I'm trying to make a vendor mod and building the dialogue is kicking my ass. After having looked through several videos and instructions I can't topics added to the left list on quest topic's tab to stay in the box. So lets say I right click on the box click add topic and then select greeting. I'll get the option to add words into the info list below the Topic Text but I won't actually get the Greeting (which I see in the topic text box) to appear in the left list below top only level. I don't know what to do or how to fix this. Furthermore once I've clicked on the greeting option in left most while list I can't even see that as an option to click on a second time without shutting down the geck and starting again.
