dcgames
Hi everyone. I'm new here and I am thinking of getting Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition) and I was wondering if I need any updates or if the GotY has everything I need? Thanks in advance for your replies. dcgames
Hi Fonger. Thanks for the reply. Is that "second disc" included in the GotY edition?
darkedge42392
dcgames, the GOTY edition of Oblivion has all of the patches you need. Just install the first disk, then the second one, and you're good to go. One bit of advice though. If you are running Vista or Windows 7, I suggest installing the game elsewhere other than the default directory. (which is C:/Program Files/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion) I suggest C:/My Games/Oblivion. That way you get around the UAC and won't have any problems. Just make sure your system can handle the game though.

I tested my computer on the Can You Run It? test site and all my components passed. Here's a screenshot of my results.... http://dougdraws.com/show/canyourunit.jpg Edited December 17, 2010 by dcgames
darkedge42392
You can definitely run Oblivion. Just fine. Well, since you have Windows 7, make sure to install outside of the default directory. The UAC can be a real pain. But Happy Gaming. If you need any good mod suggestions, just ask. ;D
dcgames
Ha! Thanks. I was kind of excited by the results. I built this computer a couple summers ago - my first time building my own rig - and I tried to get components that would have advantages further down the road. Although I have never played a game on a PC people kept asking me why, because when they saw my system specs they were like, "How come you aren't playing any PC games?" So I thought maybe I better try one, since I spent all the money to build this computer. I was interested in Morrowind when it came out, because I love big RPG games. But I didn't have a computer at the time. So I thought I'd give Oblivion a try. I have UAC turned off so that won't be a problem. I have been researching everything I can about Oblivion and I have seen some mods, like the Lost Paladins of the Divines, which is pretty slick. If you have any other suggestions I'd love to hear them. I'm a huge Zelda fan so I love anything that's melee/sword-fighting, like knights and warriors. Can you get a controller to use on the PC for this game, or are you stuck using the mouse and keyboard? Fonger
Hi Fonger. Thanks for the reply. Is that "second disc" included in the GotY edition?yes and if you don't have the second disk either its a new edition that doesn't use it or its not a GOTY edition -- deliberately misleading packaging and yes, I have held a Bethesda Game in my own hands that was clearly labeled GOTY that was not the GOTY edition. dcgames
OK, thanks, Fonger. I'll remember that. I can't believe that not one store in this town has an Oblivion GotY. Incredible. So I guess tomorrow I'll have to start checking out of town. *SIGH* ...and I really wanted to check it out tonight. Bummer.
dcgames
Uh-oh, just found this this morning on the official Oblivion forums.... Official Oblivion downloads will not work on 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows. We do not formally support Vista as Oblivion is not a Games for Windows title. Our internal tests -- and external tests done by outside parties -- have not found any issues with Oblivion on Vista. Should you have problems, it's not something we support or can help you with. The secured installers for downloadable Oblivion content are not compatible with 64-bit editions of Microsoft Windows and therefore downloadable content will not work with Oblivion. Hmm, so I guess this means I won't be able to get any downloadable content for the game, like mods and such?
