bben46
Tools you may be interested in. OBMM = Oblivion Mod Manager - not required to play, it is handy for working with mods after you have a dozen or so. The first feature you will need is the capability to change the load order of the mods as some mods must load before others to work properly. OBMM actually closes when you start the game and is not running at that time. OBMM also has a launcher that looks to see if OBSE is installed, and if it is, starts it first, then the game. OBSE = Oblivion Script Extender - Only needed if a mod you are using requires it. If no mod in your list requires it it will not do anything and the game will work as normal if it is installed. The script extender adds stuff to the programming that you will never have to deal with. So once it is installed and working you will not even notice it. It MUST start before the game every time and comes with a launcher that starts OBSE first, then the game. BOSS = Better Oblivion Sorting System - used to automatically set the load order of mods outside of the game - it then passes that load order on to the game, and can be used by OBMM and Wrye Bash. It has a data base of over 10,000 mods it can sort. Still not perfect, but if you have 50 or so mods it makes it much easier to set their order properly. Does not have to be run every time you play, only when you add new mods. Wrye Bash = A much more comprehensive tool for working with mods - I recommend waiting until you need some of its added functionality before installing it. It does have a feature that is required for one popular mod and helps if you want to combine multiple smaller mods. It is more difficult for neophytes to get working properly than the other tools. As far as what mods you should use, that's up to your own personal taste. We have well over 20,000 here for Oblivion. dcgames
Have you looked at a local Wal-mart or GameStop? (this is me assuming you live in the States) I found mine there for $20. I would have thought Walmart would have one - it said my local store did online. So last night I walked clear to the other end of town and they didn't have any. Oh well, I needed the walk anyway (lol). I called my Gamestop store and they said they aren't allowed to carry PC games (???). I asked the guy why and he said because the manager didn't feel there was a big enough market in our town for PC games. Idiots.
