Benciks
Hey there everyone, I haven't played Oblivion for about 1 and a half years now and I'm willing to install it again. But I wanted to ask something. How do I properly patch Oblivion and Shivering isles? I totally forgot how to do it in the correct order. Do I have to patch Oblivion with the latest patch before installing Shivering Isles or the other way around? Any help would be apreciated.
Fonger
if you have GOTY - install second disk and you got patch otherwise install NO patch -- then install Shivering Isles- then install Shivering Isles patch 1.2.0416

Can anyone confirm this? - Thanks
Qwaxalot
GOTY is, in fact, fully patched (officially), as long as you install both disks. That said, you should install the Unofficial patches as well.
Smooth613
The GOTY edition is fully patched. With that said you can read on for some additional information if you so choose. I said it is fully patched because some folks only read the first couple lines of posts and if that happens here all they need to know, and spread around, is the above. That the GOTY is fully patched. While the person is technically correct about the version differences with the meshes it's nothing that needs to be "fixed" so to speak, or for anyone to be worrying about. The only time this [different mesh versions] has caused ANY issues is with NifSE and throwing weapons. However it actually is the fault of NifSE and not the meshes that results in the crash, so again it's nothing to worry about. So for 99.995% of all Oblivion users you would never know this. In fact the mesh differences [between GOTY & manually patched versions] were not even known (to my knowledge) until recently when we stumbled upon it testing Deadly Reflex 6. I've looked over both different versions of the meshes and a few flags are set differently, but nothing noticeable, performance wise or visually, can be discerned from this. You can flip the flags around of the v0.4 to match v0.5 and they work the same, and vice verse. I've done it, with many meshes. In all practical purposes it should be ignored like it has been for years.

Interesting post, I don't recall ever hearing about differences between GOTY (V1.2.0416) patches and patching a non SI version to V1.2.0416. Care to clarify? Smooth613
You can read the information in the Deadly Reflex 6 BETA Threads @ BethSoft for more information and how we stumbled upon this. HERE is a post where I updated some v0.4 meshes, due to NifSE difficulties, by changing some flags. Go back to about page two of that thread and you can read the posts by cInfIdel, DragoonWraith, and me about our findings. In one of the posts buried in there I have screenshots posted of the two flags that differ in the v0.4 and v0.5 meshes. Again, it's nothing that needs to be worried about and will probably only bring confusion to folks if we start telling them there are differences. Either way, if you manually patch the game you get updated to v0.5 meshes but the GOTY editions do not contain the BSA patch and keep the v0.4 meshes. There is a reason this isn't common knowledge I'm sure, and that's because it doesn't matter. We just happened to stumble across it. Why Bethesda did it this way? Who knows. Put in the stack of "why did Beth do this" questions.

I agree let's not confuse users with Beth's wierdnesses.
