src
Hello everyone. I installed windows 7 a while ago and only now have installed Oblivion on it. It installs fine but as soon as I press the play button it will just minimize into a small black window in the top left corner of the screen where it remains frozen. I don't receive any error messages, it just stays there not responding. I previously owned Vista where it ran fine (except the usual crashes). Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks for any help.
Smooth613
Window 7 Related problems, etc... Are you using Windows 7 or Vista? Did you install Oblivion to the default directory of Program Files? If you answered yes to to both then you are likely experiencing, or will experience problems due to UAC, Windows security. Windows doesn't like it when an application, program, or even the user, attempts to alter files in a protected directory. UAC sees this a potential security threat and treats it as a malicious attack and blocks the action from happening. To prevent this you need to install Oblivion outside the jurisdiction of UAC, to an unprotected directory. A popular and suitable location is <drive letter>:\Games\Oblivion. For information on proper installation I suggest you follow Bben's Reinstall Procedure. Another great resource is Tomlong's site, TESIV:POSItive. She has included information on nearly every aspect of Oblivion you might need help or just be curious about. It has information to suite anyone from beginner to advanced. I urge everyone to bookmark this site and soak up as much information as you possibly can.
src
Sadly this didn't work, problem remains. Thanks though. Any other ideas?
Balagor
I got mine to work by setting the Windows Defender slider to minimum. You will however not get warnings anymore. They are anoying anyway. If you have a firewall it does not matter. Then you can install it anywhere you want. ( at least I could )

SandsOfTime404
Are you trying to play it with any mods enabled? If you didn't install 'em right they can really mess crap up. Check to make sure you've installed them properly (especially non-OMOD) and try again. If that's not the case, have you tried running it as an Administrator and going from there? bben46
This is not a win7 problem as many people are using it with no problems. It could be a video card issue. Go here to see if your computer can run the game.http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ You will find the various game we support Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, OblivionFallout3 as Fallout3 PC Dragon Age listed as Dragon age Fallout New Vegas as Fallout: New VegasMorrowind is not listed, However if you can run Oblivion at all it should run well on your system. If this checks OK, post a DXdiag Here's how: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938991.aspx
