When writing messages, I need to actually edit it and re-send it to make spaces between paragraphs appear.

I've done that as well. Although I frequently use the "manual linefeed" (shift-enter) instead just to avoid the issue.

 

And it's not just on the Nexus. Many internet fora (and some email clients) seem to have difficulty in correctly and consistently interpreting where there should be a blank line and where there shouldn't. Some actually remove what they consider the "extra" ones without even asking. (Same thing can happen with multiple blank spaces after a period.
