jbell2825
Just bought the GOY edition and I am overloaded with which mods to chose. If anyone could help with any of the following catagories it would be much appreciated. 1. Mod managers. Which one(s) do I chose? I am new to modding and the more basic ones are better. Are there multipule ones I should use together? 2. Performance mods. Which ones to improve graphics/bugs/speed etc etc 3. Overhaul mods. I have been reading about OOO and FOCM? What is the best option to go with? Its my understanding that some of the mods can be tough to install? 4. Weather mods. Whats the best one(s) for enhancing the great out doors? 5. Body/Armour/clothing. This one confused me the most. In DA you could chose a body mod without any regard to most amour mods, but I am under the impression that this is not the case with Oblivion. So what is the best way to go? I prefer the body mods to be more endowed vs athletic, does this effect the type of clothing or armour mods I can wear? Also do armour/clothing mods interfer with each other? What i mean is do most mods add unique items in the game and I can have countless mods or do most mods make changes to an in game item that could interfer with other mods that try and change the same item? 6. Leveling mods. Hated the way the original leveled, so I would love something more straight foward and easier to follow. 7. Misc mods. Anything you guys can think of that you have installed that helped improve your game. I know this is asking a lot so any info on any of the topics is much appreciated. And I know everyones opinions vary so feel free to list what you like rather than what you think I might like. With all of these thousands of mods I would rather start my selection process based on what you fine people like rather than solely trial and error. The more suggestions the better! mrpepperkitty
K. First, I think the Oblivion Mod Manager should suit all of your needs. An overhaul covers about every category except managers and boosts/fixes.I think OOO literally installs itself at this point, and that should keep you entertained for a long time to come. WastelandAssassin
well, first of all, get OBMMthis is the Oblivion Mod Manager, and it's practically a 'must have', and probably the best mod manager you can find (if there are more than this one, that is) for overhaul mods, i have tried OOO, and it's quite good, though the difficulty curve may not be to your liking (basically, it's deadly hard at low levels, and could get all too easy at high levels)not sure about FCOM and such, but i'm sure that if you'll read about them, or scan the comments on these, you will find the one that fits you bestif you want a challenge in the game, you could also try MMMhaven't tried it with Oblivion, but in Fallout 3, it was a 'must have' for most players (or so i think) as for body mods and armors, this is a bit more complicated than thisyou need to understand how this worksbasically, you get a body mod, and when you wear an item that is made for this body, it looks fineif you use an item that is made for a different body mod (really different, not just another variant) than the textures will look really bad, as they just won't fitbut this is the only problem (at least as far as i know) now, i have HGEC, which probably has the most amount of items built for itand it has so many variations, you will probably find one that will fit your likingsfor male bodies, Roberts' is probably the way to go (haven't really heard of any other ones) as for actual clothing\armor mods, it would really help if you could explain what you are looking for, as there are just too many good mods to list them all (but if you can tell which types you are looking for, i'll try to help you find such mods) as for your question about such mods, most mods add new items, and not change existing itemsso there should be no problem herejust look at what you are getting (if it's a replacer, retexture, or just new items) as for leveling mods, i tried Oblivion XP, and i loved itif you like an XP leveling system, it is perfect for youand since someone recently started updating it, it should be up to date, and working perfectly other than that, most leveling mods (that i know of) work just like the original leveling system, but change it a little bit (meaning that you still level up skills, and level up through them) as for misc mods, if you want mods that just make the game better, i would first suggest The Lost SpiresBEST ADVENTURE MOD I HAVE PLAYED!!! seriously, it's THAT awesome  if you could specify more about what you would like to see, i'm sure i will be able to point you to some mods that you may like
jbell2825
What about these mods that affect graphic performance? Are they helpful? Is there any weather mod that is better than another? As for clothing/armour mods I dont want any godlike items, just stuff that looks good, sexier the better. I forgot to ask about companions, what exactly do they do? I assume they arent like how DA is. What instructions can you tell your companions to do? Can you tell them to cast certain spells etc? Animations. I see lots of pose mods, do they work together? Is one better than the other?
WastelandAssassin
well, again, about clothing\armor mods, i think you will have to be a little more specificfirst, you should really choose which body mod you will use, and we will need to know which is it, in order to give you compatible clothing\armor modsalso, you really need to explain what it is you would like to get (i mean, do you want medieval armors, bathing suits, latex stuff..... whatever, but some more info could be really helpful) as for companions, the companion system works really differently then in DAin DA, the game was based on companions, and you are able to control themin Oblivion, you can't control your companions (at least not to the same extent)companions in Oblivion are basically NPCs that go with you, and fight for you, in whatever way they were programmednow, i don't know about mods like CM Companions, but i know that there are some companions that you can teach spells to, and give them equipment, so you can get them to fight in the way that you want (you can also command them to act in specific ways, like follow you sneaking, or go fully armed, or such)it's not an open system like in DA, but then again, in games like Oblivion, you aren't supposed to directly control more than one character as for animations and poses, you need to understand that there are two types of such modsthe first is replacers, which change the animations or poses that you see in several cases in the game (like casting animations, idle poses and such)the other type is mods that allow you to set your character (or other NPCs) in unique posesthe first type isn't compatible with other mods that change the same animation (well, you can't have more than one animation of the same type)the second type, you can basically have as many as you will ever need as for some mods being better than others, it's completely a matter of tastei can tell you about myself, that i don't like the animations in mods like DMC (Devil May Cry) animations, but there are lots of people that love these animationsso again, you need to decide what you are really looking for, and then you can find the most fitting mods for you
