The Grid

Actually I think putting the digitizing laser in an abandoned house or small bunker could be cool. I've always thought something like the Grid would make a sweet player home, even if it was just a relatively small area. And think of it from a character's perspective, most raiders and there ilk would ignore a computer as if it weren't there, so what better place to store your valuables!?

And if there were plans to expand beyond just a player home then successive expansions could be portrayed as opening new connections to bigger systems. I'll bet those circuits in Mr House's supercomputer would be a wild place to wander...

Then there's the question of how to style it... Would such a mod be best as a replica of the Grid in TRON or would it be better to envision the Grid as it would have been written in the Fallout universe? Getting back to House, it seems he already lives in such a world with his electronic concubines.

It'd be kinda like a total conversion and yet not, since one can always drop back into the real world. Perhaps you could even unlock doors and bypass security systems from inside the computers, wherein breaking the access codes would be represented by finding your way through mazes or completing other challenges instead of requiring real world hacking skills. This idea has a lot of directions it could go if some good people took up the torch...

i have designed a underground location with the whole tron perspective in mind already. All i have to do is find a better location to place to door for it, and get some help with designing a different looking terminal and a digitizing laser. with a few small tweeks here and there it will be ready for uploading soon so i can get help with the rest or put it into use with a larger scale tron mod

But the only problem with the idea is that people with lower end comps wouldnt stand a chance of running it.

A mod of this proportion as is hoping to be put together would almost double the resources it need from a computer,

but on the other hand i have uploaded my first contribution to the TRON cause

I know this thread is dead but I'm just reviving it because it's related to my current mod project. I'm making a Tron-like dungeon mod. I'm aiming for it to be a run-n-gun affair with complex dungeon layouts like Doom. Except maybe not as complicated as Doom since I always got lost (where is that red key?!). I'm aiming for it to be at least 2 hours worth of gameplay but if the scope of the project expands with attainable goals I wouldn't mind.

Here's the thread where I detail my work on the custom meshes and textures for the project

Anyways so I'm just opening the floor for ideas I could use for the project as I could use some. No pie-in-the-sky ideas here like Facebook integration or something. Reasonable ideas I could use like certain trap designs for the dungeon floor or unique encounters or something.

I've already gotten Ironman5000's permission to use resources from his mod Tron Home mod. But I won't be using the interior pieces since I want to create those from scratch.

Planned features:

- Tron-like dungeon tiles.

- Some basic animations for static meshes. Stuff like neon lights displays.

- Different neon colors for different dungeon floors (like Blue circuits to Green circuits or Red circuits).

- Interesting set pieces.

- Many hostiles.

Possible features:

- Allied NPCs.

- Storyline choices? (really depends on how the story ends up taking shape)

The project is named Hard Reboot. I've already got background lore figured out so don't worry about that. I've created a lore that borrows from Tron but gives it the Fallout spin. So in closing if anyone's got some cool ideas that I might be able to use throw 'em at me!
