Essential Oblivion Mods/Overhauls?

Hello fellow Nexusians/Nexussers/Nexus Members! (can anyone tell me whats the right one?)

[skippable Yap starts]

With TES5:Skyrim announced, I am pretty much going to do the same as when New Vegas got announced: Play the predecessor.

Why? I don't know. Its some sort of uncontrollable urge to satisfy my impatience with it. Even if TES5 has a new engine announced for it. (Fingers crossed its a good one!)

But, I have a huge cacaphony of mods and am very very eager to just plain out re-install Oblivion and somewhat start from scratch.

Of course I'm first going to note down all the OBMM's I have installed, just so I can easily find back the mods I liked.

(no sense having to re-find those fancy clothing mods...)

Now, I installed and played Oblivion pretty early when it came out, and before any overhauls came out, I already had a huge set-up of mods I found more important rather then an overhaul I barely knew.

[skippable Yap ends]

So now I ask you, what overhauls/(big) mods do you find essential or very very good? I have heard good things of this overhaul named OOO...

Is it any good? Are there others you'd recommend?

Even though I am well aware of Deadly Reflex and Unnecessary Violence and need no convincing to get them (again), you're more then welcome to share why you like them so much.

Companion mods are wildly encouraged to share too!

You're welcome to suggest Clothing/Armor or Weapon mods too, but I'd be more interested in compilation mods of those.

I hate long load orders, since my Laptop's not one of the strongest...

I know its cheap to bribe, but anyone who's giving me great suggestions (or just plain suggestions  ) gets a Kudos from me.

It doesn't hurt nor cost me money to give them, so why not?

You could look up Tamriel Heightmaps which adds a complete heightmap of Tamriel to the game. Its more of a modders resource, but then again you may have fun just seeing what the other provinces could possibly look like. Don't expect to see too much though, its still a work in progress. Skyrim though has and Summerset Isles are currently being worked on though, so you could go visit those places. Elsweyr does not work though, you need Iliana's Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina mod which is currently unavailable.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep 'm comin'.

I'm going to check out FCOM right now meanwhile, and then I'm going to continue my list of mods and see what ones are still available or are in need of updating, move the up-to-date/removed-from-nexus ones from my vault of mods (I always save the mod files on my external hard drive. Great fallback if great modders like AlexScorpion find a reason to pull away their mods for a reason) and get started...

Realswords - All of them

Excellent mod, adds loads of well meshed and textured swords to the game. Also adds bows, arrows and blunt weapons. Must have.

Craftybits v0.7

Excellent but not much of a need mod, i just love the things it adds like cooking, pottery, smithing, woodscraft.

Oblivion XP

Overhaul to the way you level up, adds new menus and a complete new style of character progression.

Midas Magic, Supreme Magicka, Fearsome Magicka

All make magic more fun, the best in my opinion is Fearsome Magicka as the effects are totally epic. Midas is also a very good mod, adds quests, spells, items, NPCs, Everything.

The only one I already didn't have was Craftybits ^^

Very much agree, they're Ace mods that have enriched my game before. I'm right now reinstalling Oblivion as I speak/type. According to FCOM's beginner guide, its smart to start with a clean game anyway...Lets hope it works out!

Armamentarium is great if you want a huge variety of Vanilla style weapon sets that fit quite nicely into the game.

Cobl - Need I say more? Great for all those extra bits like storage options for homes and More food and ingredients.

Alive Waters - Zests up the underwater aspects of the game by adding more fish.

Streamline - You're on a laptop like me, you'll want to kiss the person that made this

Unofficial Patch

Modular Oblivion Enhanced (M.O.E) - adds a bunch of different .esp files that you can activate at your leisure depending on what options you want, I use it for the alternate start and Main Quest delayer and the extra class options.

Natural Environments - Great weather mod, I dislike the water mod included though, it's way too see-through (I prefer Phinix Water Fix, while it is still rather see-through, it's bearable), adds birds and insects for measure for a bit more life, even seasonal weather patterning.

Unique Landscapes - This may stab your fps a bit, depending on how good your laptop is, I love the variety of the landscapes and their modularity so you can pick which ones you want. I'd recommend downloading one of the smaller sized files and testing it out to see if you can stand the framerate or not.

Since I don't know what kind of clothing styles that you like, character gender preference or possible body mods that you may have already, I cannot really suggest anything yet. :/

I already set my mind on HGEC. Oblivion's already a fantasy world, why should the women be anything short of that. :whistling:

Cobl's already on my list. Some good rep's just reach every corner of the world at one point.

I once had Streamline installed upon suggestion by a mod, but can't remember what one...now i'm really going to look into it (again).

As for the rest, I'll give most of them a try. I'm indeed a little sensitive on my fps. Check my profile to see what cr-- graphics card I have to deal with. :wallbash:

I just spent around 15 hours downloading and correctly installing every part of FCOM. Now its up for the rest of the mods...It better be worth it!

Thanks for the suggestions! [Kudos processing...]

FCOM seems to have at least 2 different sets of directions so I'm done trying with it as far as I can tell I've tried both and neither worked huge waste of time.

So is there a noob-friendly list for mods? After trying FCOM i'm ready to pull my hair out and throw the game away. I mean, easy to install mods.

If you know for certain you have downloaded/installed all required files for FCOM (there are 10), the following should solve your problem. Just use the Construction Set to see what master files the FCOM files use (those starting with FCOM). Move all other newly installed esps/esms to a temp folder. You should now have a basic, working FCOM version. Edited by Maskar
