Essential Oblivion Mods/Overhauls?

I also use HGEC, the only problem is that I like to use bits from a number of mods to create the most fitting outfit for my character. I'll list a few that i use that you may find useful.

Tona Mods Store - I love the pants from the guy behind the bar, they go with a lot of stuff and they look so comfy. The other armor and accessories are excellent too.

Apachii Goddess Store - I love the Artemis Weapons and the wigs and shoes are just fabulous.

Adelina Armor - The Top and the necklace are just fabulous.

SPB Mercenary Armors - I love these for my assassin themed characters

AT2 01 - Shiki Armor set and AT2 02 - Shiki Armor Set - Both of these are quite animeish but have some fabulous dress armors, the 02 set has my favourite pieces that fit in a lot better.

It's also worth digging around on some Japanese sites, they have fabulous clothing and armor that is beautifully detailed. One in particular (if you want a lovely female Knight) is one of my favourites called Steel Maiden Armor, just affix the word Oblivion in front of that and google it, the result should show up on the first page. The page that shows up has some other lovely outfits as well.

Do you have any Race mods? Here's a couple to get you started if you don't.

Xenius Race Compilation

Moonshadow Elves

Raven Elves

Ancient Elven Sorceress

Here's a few more miscellaneous mods that I thought of.

Alluring Potion Bottles - It replaces the meshes from the potion ans poison bottles, they just make them so much nicer to look at when you have them displayed and gives them a lot more of a variety than either Pink or Green.

Crowded Roads - Adds more traveling NPC's to all of the roads to give it a bit more life.

If you like using Vanilla races then I'd recommend Ren's Beauty Pack for some extra hair options and Danis13 Beauty Faces to clean up the face textures a bit.

Sorry for the text wall. >_>

I hope some of these help though!

I suggest you to try Waalx Animals&Creatures, it's a great and atmospheric global mod.

...

Some other cool mods that I absolutely love:

Enchanced Economy - immersive economic overhaul and semi-random quests where you have to help the traders.

VAcuity's Spirits&Ephemerals - GREATLY diversifies wisps, adds very atmospheric and interesting creatures.

Oblivion Sound Sets - you now may download a sound set you neet to enchance game immersion.

All Natural - best envirorment mod for me.

Duke Patricks Combat Archery - can't roleplay an assassin without this mod. Makes archery harder and more tactical.

KEa Magic And Skill extender (sadly for you, latest versions of this mod exist only on a russian) - VERY unique mod that makes game MUCH harder and realistic. Absolutely can't play without it.

Armor and weapons now have a chance to be found modified (+ or - some percents durability, attack, etc)

Magic is GREATLY enchanced and has 4 schools: High, Blood, Necromancy, Magic of will.

Every kind of weapon has it own advantages and disadvantages.

....

too much to write, really ;)

I used this from their website to install everything correctly, and use my few additional skills to determine how to best work out additional unlisted mods on their website.

It took me somewhat around 30 hours to complete, but I'm almost done now.

Its not hairpulling difficult if you follow the guide by heart, but it takes a LONGGGG time if you do it all from scratch. Especially if you try to almost have EVERY single part put up as a OMOD. I have actually slept for five hours while one of the big ones was compressing. Didn't take this long, but I just fell asleep while waiting...

I haven't played a single game since I started. Lets hope its d-mn well worth it! I've heard good stuff.

I recommend you to install the latest official Oblivion and Shivering Isles patches from Bethesda. In my experience, the new patches are much more stable compared to the original releases. After installing, you can then decide if you want to install the unofficial patches - most people do.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion#Tech_Support

For mods on a fresh Oblivion install, this list is a good starter (though I don't agree to it entirely):

http://agdom.wordpress.com/2010/02/20/100-mods-you-should-be-playing-for-oblivion/

UESP Wiki is also one of my favorite stops for mod info:

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Recommended_Mods

Bethesda's Official forums are always full of mod talk.

http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/

This is a nice LIST OF OBLIVION LISTS:

http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/155637-list-list-of-mod-lists/

Let us know if you need any further info, though I guess you are already a seasoned Oblivion gamer.

You should also try some of the following mods from TesNexus or PlanetElderScrolls.

Kudos to the authors of all these mods - we are indebted to them. There are other excellent recommended mods that I may have missed, so please feel free to bring it to my notice (PM me).

Disclaimer:

Please note I don't have Shivering Isles or any of the DLCs at present, so most of these mods don't need SI or the DLCs (just v1.2 for vanilla Oblivion). Also, I tend to play Ranger/Rogue/Thief/Assassin kind of characters, so my recommendations may be bent towards that kind of wardrobe/equipment.

Thanks for the help, all of you. My installation is fixed up and ready now, I'm set up with FCOM, and though I've now and then seen a tiney bug, its nowhere near gamebreaking, and verrrry challenging!

No, its rediculous even. One on one fights are impossible without my Bullet Time mod!

I gave everyone who gave (any) suggestions a Kudos in appreciation for the help, but I think I can call this topic closed now.

(Can I do that?)

Cheers all, Merry Christmas to those who are still enjoying it today and...if not, I'll still wish you all a Happy New Year! Don't overdo on the eggnog!

Deadly Reflex and realistic fatigue with locational damage are three that I can't do without, even though I might be replacing DR and locational damage with Duke Patrick's Melee Combat if it turns out as great as his Combat archery. There's the 4th, by the way, Combat Archery. With those 4 mods, where you hit becomes just as important as what weapon you're using or how hard you hit. Example: In the arena, I blocked a blow, and landed a quick slash to an unprotected leg, which immobilized the opponent and allowed me to give him a coup de grace stab through the heart to end the match. These four mods basically force me to use more realistic strategies when fighting because all the damage, fatigue and potential instant deaths apply to me as well, so staying on my toes at all times is a must! Hits to the head not only take your life bar down A LOT, they also knock your fatigue down and cause vision blurring. Blows to the torso with heavy warhammers can cause a KO through fatigue reduction as the enemy gasps for his last few breaths.

I combine these mods with the Cyrodiil Upgrade Overhaul, which basically unlevels the game world and makes travel just a bit more realistic. You can be on the road and meet a cut little bunny, or you can run into a level 40 marauder Hero wearing a full suit of illegal Dwemer armor and swinging a claymore as tall as a 10 year old at your skull. You can run into a cave and find an inept crew of level 3 bandits, or stumble into a nest of hungry vampires and end up their lunch. The overall gameplay experience becomes a LOT more realistic.

I also use StarX's Vanilla Vampires Revamped, which turns vampires into the secretive group that the lore paints them as, and introduces vampire hunters, and their weapons, training and tactics.

Origin of the Mage's Guild,Fighter's Guild Contracts, The Necromancer, Kvatch Rising, CUO Cities and The Elder Council are my top choices for additions to the game world. They bring the game closer to the actual Elder Scrolls lore.

Toasty Says Share is indispensable. With this (and The Elder Council) I was able to roleplay an Imperial Captain who put together a squad of sergeants and foresters into an elite squad and started Operation Phoenix: A squad of dishonored and disenfranchised vets who hunt bandits and marauders to make the roads safer for all citizens using a combination of raids, information gathering and assassinations to whittle the bandit population a low as possible (they respawn, so wiping them out completely won't happen-they always return after a week or so).

Overall, these mods have made Oblivion a truly great experience, and I have more fun roleplaying in this game than almost any other.
