brokenergy
I checked for AMD but they don't sell it (at least not in the city). The nearest thing I found was intel, I might have to tweak it a bit as I'm going to keep this PC for a long time.
prandiningrat
Graphics Card: Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD5870 1GBCPU: Intel Core i5 QC 760 2.66GHzfor graphic card, buying 4890 is still good idea..here is comparison ATI 5970 TDP 294 Watt, in Crysis 109 fps, 3D Mark Vantage benchmark 16,361 point...nVidia GTX 480 TDP 324 Watt, in Crysis 85 fps, 3D Mark Vantage benchmark 14,974 point.ATI 5870 TDP 188 Watt, in crysis 80 fps, 3D Mark Vantage benchmark 14,302 point.ATI 4890 190 Watt, crysis 54 fps, 3D Mark Vantage benchmark 10.339 point...you can compare them in price, if 5870 in your budget is match, that is good too, or maybe you can also considering new comer, the HD6970. If less than $300, you should buy it, this not wasting your money.. for CPU, i dont know Intel Core i5 QC 760 2.66GHz, as far as i know i5 760 is 2.8 GHz, and 750 is 2.66 GHz..I suggest Intel Core i7-875K, because easy to OC, and price is approximately the same with processor that paxan suggested above.some hardware reviewer recomends Intel Core i7-870 because the price dropped drastically form $650 to $350 last month(in my place). dont know in AU. I think buying PSU, after you've had GPU and CPU..
JimboUK
The 6870 isn't that much slower than the 5870 but is a hell of a lot cheaper, might be worth looking at that.
Paxan_1
Hi,well, if you prefer Intel the i5/i7 S1156 is my suggestion, too. Motherboard: Gigabyte/Asus P55 Bases motherboardASUS P7P55D-E LX, P55, this one has USB 3.0 and if you don't need more than one pcie x16 slot this has all you will need.Price is around 110€ so it should be around 150$. Graphics Card: Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD5870 1GB HD: 1TB SATA II HDDWell, i don't know the price down under but maybe you can have a 2TB one for 20$ more. RAM: 4GB DDR3 CPU: Intel Core i5 QC 760 2.66GHzThe 760 is the one i would choose too. Here it is 170€, i7 is around 50€ more so the i5 is a very good choice. Case: Lian Li K58 PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650WMaybe you will have a look at the Antec TruePower New TP-650. This one has cable management, a feature i wont miss any more ;) Paxan
brokenergy
I spend more time looking around and I decided to see what happens if you max out on everything, just for fun sakes. I found out that in the end it would have cost me $2500 Aus for a "super computer" and it isn't something worth considering. I'm still looking around for some different products and talking with different people about the right advice but up and all I'm getting close to a decent build that will last me for a while. I'll post my final specs when I feel that it is ready.
Paxan_1
Building a new computer needs some time. For the one i still have i needed nearly 2 months :whistling: , but it is worth taking the time. This one is still powerful and very silent (very important for me :) ). Getting help from some irl friends is very important because you have a direct feedback and you can discuss your needs in a direct way. So it would be nice if you can give a little feedback, it is always good to know if some advices are useful :)Have fun buying the stuff and unpack it. I love the Asus package, it is like Christmas to open it  , same like you unpack some new shoos :D cu,Paxan
prandiningrat
The 6870 isn't that much slower than the 5870 but is a hell of a lot cheaper, might be worth looking at that. This 6870 is good too,if cheap you can also consider to buy two and crossfire them.only if 6950 and 6970 can't meet the price.might be you need to know, the 6870 is worse than the 5870 and the 6850 is worse than the 5850. The 6870 is replacement for 5770. 6970 is replacing the 5870. My advice, one of your parts should be the best, because you need keep this PC for a long time. I think choosing a good motherboard, is great idea. you need buy it first. This part will determine other parts, and when you need to upgrade PC. secksegai
As I've been building my own rigs for almost 10 years now, the first question one must ask him/herself is Do you really enjoy the PC gaming side more than consoles? Building has definitely become easier over the years, troubleshooting on the other hand is about the same if not worse. PC gaming has been the biggest influence on my technical knowledge. Whether its hardware related, Windows related, or other software, there are just so many avenues for things to go wrong, unlike with consoles which are designed for a specific purpose. Wolf3d, Doom, NoLF, HL & Half-Life 2, CounterStrike, Tie Fighter, Fallout 1 &2, C&C Series, Starcraft 1 and 2 are just some of the games that turned me away from consoles. But I really have to emphasize that you really need to be motivated to delve into the current world of PC Gaming.

I'm also a quick builder and searcher, so it's really easy just searching for the parts I need, with the Internet and all. I still haven't figured my final specs but they are really close to the ones I posted. I might even do this more often and ditched the whole buying a computer from some retailer forever. Oh well, I'll see how it goes and post my final specs when I'd done. P.S... How dare you remind me of shoes! Now I'm going nuts now over that missed boots sale on last Tuesday
