Who mowed my field and forest? (CK issue)

There's probably a very simple explanation but being new to all this, I can't figure it out.

 

I've created a landmass - 4096x4096. It's loaded into the CK and game just fine. Okay, a few very minor landscape glitches here and there, but nothing earthshattering.

 

I opened the landscape editor to paint some grass onto an area just to see what it looks like. I chose a grass that should have, you know *grass*...but it doesn't. Not a single blade. Just the flat greenish texture with the little designs (leaves, rocks, etc) also flat. This is in both the CK and ingame.

 

Am I missing some step to get actual grass blades to show up?

 

The same with forest floors. No fauna whatsoever.

 

I know (I think) that I have to create regions to actually generate trees and such. But, grass, too?

There should be two grass textures you can paint. One with actual grass blades and one without. Take a closer look at your texture painting options

Trees are fauna/static objects that need to be placed by hand. that or you generate region randomly with the region editor

::nods:: I made certain I used the grass texture that /did not/ have "no grass" after the name. It's called "LFieldGrass02". And I made certain that "grass" is toggled on. : /

Sometimes I don't know why but I have to toggle grass on and off several times before it actually shows in the render window. Try zooming very close to the ground and then toggle grass on and off then hit F5 to refresh the render window.

Okay.. I tried toggling grass on and off several times and refreshing the window a few times and still no grass. Here's an image of my workspace. Maybe there's something I don't understand and am doing wrong.

Once I learn how to generate regions, would that solve this "no grass" issue if I set a /region/ to have grass? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the CK and it still doesn't show grass blades when I paint that grass on my landscape.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm sort of at a standstill until this gets fixed. *sighs*

I had this problem for quite a while and I never found a way to fix it but for some reason it fixed itself after I installed a new graphics card although. Doubt its related though.

Nope. I see in game exactly what I see in the Creation Kit.....just flat green expanse.

 

I followed Hoddminir's directions to the letter (bless him).....minus the Geocontrol stuff (since I had a viable map)....and steps 16 & 17, where you load LODs in the CK, since he(?) said no need to run those if you have no trees or objects, yet. I was so pleased to now have my world working that this texture issue is frustrating, to say the least.

ETA: As for the new graphics card...my card is fairly new and I can run Skyrim on the highest settings with no problems. HOWEVER, when I run LotRO, I usually set my frill distance (extra grasses) to "disabled", only because I like being able to see some of the bad guys lurking in the tall grasses and bushes in Rohan..lol.....and this image I'm seeing in the CK reminds me a LOT of that....just flat with no grass.

In your SkyrimEditor.ini is this line under [GRASS] bAllowCreateGrass=1 there and in your Skyrim.ini located here C:\Users\username\Documents\my games\skyrim

 

I haven't done much with the region editor so not quite sure how that all works.
