Plugins still in Data folder after uninstallation and reinstallation.

When my Oblivion data folder gets crowded and I want to freshen it all up by clearing out ESP files, I uninstall it then reinstall the game (I have a lot ESPs, and I have been starting from scratch on a lot of my games, so I feel that's the easiest route). But when I go into the Oblivion Launcher and go into the menu to check off the ESP files (after reinstalling), they are still in there from my previous game, even if THERE ARE NONE IN THE DATA FOLDER ITSELF. I looked into my User/Appdata/Local/Oblivion folder (I did that before and deleted ESPS that way), but there is nothing in there! WTF?! I even type the ESPs file names into Search on my computer, and nothing comes up. Can anyone help?

ps Huh, I just noticed the topic title is misleading and incorrect. My bad...

Uninstalling the game does not remove any other files. It only removes the game files. Therefore any mods, etc. that you added in won't be taken out when the game uninstalls. Assuming you reinstall to the same location then all of the old mods will still be present. If you've already uninstalled, a simple fix is to just delete the folder that it had installed to. That's where you'll find all the pesky files that survived your purge hiding out. There's also some nifty witchcraft I saw posted on here that'll restore the game to vanilla for you. If I can dig up the link I'll post it for ya. Use that if you've already reinstalled. It'll save lots of time.

I deleted all the files! There are NO ESPs in the Data Folder or anywhere else on my computer, they are just there in the ESP select screen. I guess they are somewhere on the computer, I just don't get why I can't find them and delete them.

BTW, my copy of Oblivion is the Game of the Year Edition, if that makes any difference...

Thanks for the help though, I'll try reinstalling it in a different location...

Check out Bben's excellent articles.

Bben46 (Reinstalling Oblivion): http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240

Bben46 (Revert to Vanilla): http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=340

Ahh yeah, that's the witchcraft I mentioned.

Also, is this GOTY Edition from a disc or a Steam download?

It's from a disc. I am looking at Bben's articles right now.

Virtual Store – Win 7 & Vista |

Windows is basically ghosting your files since you installed to Program Files. UAC doesn't like it when files are altered in anyway and sees this as a security threat. This is why you should always install Oblivion outside of Program Files to a directory such as <drive letter>:\Games\Oblivion.

Windows is storing the files in the VirtualStore, located at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\VirtualStore.

Oh, God, THANK YOU! I think I remember doing this before, but this time the ESPS were not showing up in a Windows search this time for some reason. I owe you a Coke.

But seriously; I was pulling my hair out over this. You helped me a lot!
