So, in light of the whole "Steam introducing paid mods" thing, I happened across one of the many mods that was made into a paid mod (but, like many, isn't able to be purchased). I went looking to see if I could find the mod in question for free, and was unable to find it here (as the mod's creator deleted it from Nexus after releasing it as a paid mod on Steam), but I DID find it on a Russian site. The mod is complete, but the in-game text for the mod is all gibberish, as my Skyrim is set to English.

Can anyone walk me through how I could go about editing the mod's files to translate them back into English?

Dovahmaar and Dovahfaas, made by Dreogan. He deleted that, and his Skyforge Weapons and Shields mod from Nexus after putting them up for sale on Steam. It's a small set of Akaviri-inspired Daedric weapons with unique enchantments.

I just downloaded that, but don't know enough about modding to know what needs to be edited for things not to get broken. Would you mind giving me a generic step-by-step? Near as I can tell, the only things that need translating are the item names and the enchantment description.

Not much to it really. TES5Edit will checkbox mark every mod you have installed when you open it, just right click and select "None" first to clear everything, and then go back and select only the esp file(s) you want to edit. If you forget to do this first, be prepared to wait a LONG time while it loads every mod and connects all the dependencies together. It should load Master files automatically. Just look for the sections with garbage characters and right click to get a popup with an option to edit. When you click that, a warning comes up "Are you sure?" Say yes (don't worry, the program makes a backup automatically in case you mess up). Make whatever changes you want - name, weight, effect, etc. When you are happy with what you've done, just close out the program and it will ask you if you want to save and backup (checkboxes, both enabled by default).

This screenshot should help (you obviously don't want to modify the game's core files - I don't use any weapon mods to demonstrate so I had to find one somewhere):

I always check over mods for errors and fix them with TES5Edit as well. The documentation for that process is here:

Thanks a ton! I knew it had to be something like that. I don't have any screenshots of the original mod's enchantment names, so I just had to make them up, lol. If I got real anal I could try and pass it through a translator, but I'm lazy. Anyway, thanks!

No worries m8. If you spend some time with the program you can quickly learn how pretty much ANY mod works. It's pretty rare that I'm happy with a mod as downloaded, so I just remove what I don't need and add what I want. You can make those weapons do whatever you desire.
