Now that paid mods are gone, it's time to count the casualties..

I know a lot of work goes into some mods, I have modded games in the past. The problem with monetizing mods is what it will bring in

the future. If this s*** becomes a success there will come a time that you will NOT be able to use third party sites to mod your games. This

would mean you would have to go through a "store/shop" to get your mods, which in turn would mean no more awesome mods like Iron Man in GTA-->COPYRIGHT!

This could severely hurt the modding scene, which is a MAJOR part of PC gaming. Mods should be a passion project, used as practice, build a portfolio, or for fun.

I think a better option would be a tip jar in which all profit goes to the modder because mods are free advertisement for games, they can keep an old game relevant,

Steam/Devs are making their money there. If you want to make a job of it start your own indie game or try to get on with a Developer.

I discovered OBLIVION on playstation a long time ago.

I was so glad to play this game so I jumped on the next one.

When I accidentally fall on an article about "skyrim mods" which was something I couldn't know with the consoles (playstations, dreadcast, nintendo etc) and started to dig the question ... I discovered how naive I could be to ignore a PC version. And I did it ... i bought once again SKYRIM on steam.

Then I discovered this great place, this strong community full of ideas, some amazing, some disturbing and all free !

I could give some money to the best ones I still use. I also had free support for the problems I encountered with some mods.

Why all this exists ?

Because Bethesda offered us a nice game, a nice base and the authorizations to do mods.

It contributes to the success of the game serial, of this game itself.

Yes : modders contribute to this success and the sales too.

An additional marketing policy they have adopted since the begining.

Now they divide the community.

In french we say "diviser pour mieux régner" ...

As you just said, when you are pasionate you do it for free. You do it with all your heart and you do not count the hours of work.

you do not have a deadline to respect.

There is no money behind, no limitation to your power.

I understand the entire point of view of what is happening from both sides.
I translate american & spanish boardgames in my native language (french).

I do it for free, for the others who are watching a product they would never buy because they can't understand a word.

I don't want to be paid for that. I just want to help and if someone else is translating better or help me it's fantastic.

I think this is something relevant about internet.

When money is involved with the help of the intellectual property weapon against people, everything is forbidden illegal and it destroys the creativity of the entire community.
This is what is going to happen if we do not join our forces against the evil souleater.

Ok there are talented people around the globe who can't have a descent job. May be some incomes are welcome.

May be a jackpot.

But think about the running world and what you do not want it becomes for your kids.
