Oblivion wont load anymore

Hey Everybody,

 

I recently became heavily addicted to Oblivion (shortly after getting my computer out of a two month heitus of random hangs. So anyways, I was trying to go back to Kvatch to continue onto the main quest and I have encountered problems nonstop since. I had already been there, even gone into Oblivion with no problems recently. However, now I just had to get near the gate and my computer would reboot.

 

So that was rather annoying, so I went to the Oblivion forums and they told me to get 1.1 patch. Well, I did and it patched fine (or so I thought) However, the issue wasnt resolved. It still rebooted the computer upon nearing the Kvatch Oblivion gate. However, this time there was a twist.

 

After my computer restarted, I figured I would get on Oblivion and just mess around. Oh but I was mistaken, the game wont even load past the logos now. The farthest it has gotten was getting to the loading screen then showing no progress. I have to shut the machine down before Oblivion minimizes.

 

I dont know whats up, can anybody offer advice?

I have the same problem, but my game doesn't make it too the adds. It DOES make it to them if I turn off all mods though. I have about 60 mods running, so I'm guessing that's what is causing it. Problem is, Oblivion is no fun without the mods. :(

Nope my mods arent doing it, I only had one running and disabled it and the game still won't load

I had similar issues with Gothic 3 myself; reinstalling/repatching it worked. I suggest you try that with Oblivion... back up your saves and mods first of course. ^^

Does that happenes with all of your saves or only with one? Because you might have a corrupt save game somewhere. I remember I had one, caused similar issues. Start a new game, and see what happens. If the problem persists, follow Switch's advice.

Well I did a reinstall after backing up the saves and that works, I reinsatlled my mods and now everything works, excepts the save file that was after the 1.1 patch, it only loads about 75% of the way then stops. But now that it works it is yet again, 1.07XXXX I think, I just know its not 1.1. I had patched it to try and fix issues I was having with two quests, the main quest and Lucien Lachance's request to meet him in the fort. The issues I am having are every time that I go into the fort that Lucien is in, I'm fine until I attack any of the skeletons wandering around, at which point the game crashes my system. In Kvatch, any time I get within sight of the Oblivion gate, my computer just freezes or reboots. I was hoping the 1.1 patch would fix it and it didnt seem to. Any ideas?

Hmmm... probably something with your computer... do your speakers get all crappy sometimes (they sound what you think a scratched old timer's record disk thingie sounds like when played)? If so, that'd be your problem.

How do I fix this? Yes, scratchy sound quality has always been an issue right before the crash, didn't think it was significant.

There is a known issue between RADEON video cards and the Oblivion gates. Many RADEON systems will crash, hang or freeze up when you get near any Oblivion gates in the game.

 

I don't know if you have a RADEON card or not, but if you do... I believe there's a new driver available that corrects this issue. Disabling "VPU Recover" in the Catalyst Control Panel can also help... which again, is a RADEON issue.

 

If you use an nVidia card, then the problem is most likely something else entirely. We'd need more info... but IRQ conflicts between video and audio cards are one possible starting point, as are some of the settings in the nVidia control panel.
