WightMage
Please don't donate just 1$. Paypall takes away 0.4$ per transaction and they also keep 0.5% of the full transaction, nothing can be done about that 0.5%, but if you only donate 1$ then the mod author only gets 0.55$.So that's almost a 50% loss for 1$, you should at least give 3$ because then the mod author gets 2.5$, going below 3$ is just silly. Imo Nexus should make this clear because its not "100% goes to mod authors", the lower you go with the donation the less % the author gets, and lately Ive been getting nothing but 1$ donations...Don't get me wrong, its nice to see people donate, but some knowledge about the real % would go a long way. If each person donated just a single penny, that author would have earned $1000.That author would get nothing then, in fact the person donating one penny would have to spend 0.42$ just to make that 1 penny transaction even possible, lol.Ugh, seriously? Already spent around $30-40 in donations over the past week- one of those guys had a $1. Now I'll need to figure out who they were so I can add more to their tip bucket. On the subject of how much to donate, imo it depends on the level of time it took to build the mod and how important it is to your mod order. Good examples: XPMS abd XPMSE, and Frostfall. Both of these warrant anywhere from 5-10 in my book.
Deleted31005User
I'm just saying that if people donate 3$ minimum it makes more sense from a financial point of view because with 1$ donations you basically give 34% to Paypal every time.Instead of everyone donating 1$ to every single mod they like, give more to certain mods and don't donate anything at all to other mods, if everyone applies this system then the overall donations for all mods will remain the same, except now Paypal is not running off with 34% of everything.I posted a screenshot on page 1 so you can see for yourself that I'm not making this stuff up. The more you donate, the less you give to Paypal.Tbh Paypal is really no good for small transactions like this and its not ideal for donations, even for a 5$ donation they still take 50 cents and in my book 5$ is quite a sum and much appreciated. Shadowmane01
I would say if you want to donate then whatever you can afford and want to give would be fair ( I'm a mod user not a mod maker ) don't forget making a mod has its rewards not all of which are financial. 1 If its a hobby then its done for the joy of just making and using it in there own game as well as sharing.2 It looks good on a C.V .3 people like to share and have something they are proud of appreciated. I would also say if you cant donate make a positive comment if your going to criticise then make it constructive . Recently I have been having a play with the C.K and man I can see that making a fully fledged mod would take a fare bit of work and head scratching. Showing appreciation for someone's work and thanking them for sharing doesn't always mean donating moneyI know I'm going to visit all the pages of the mods I use and thank them. I will and have donated but like most of us I'm using 150+ mods even at a quid a mod that's over £150 for a game that cost £40 So I cant donate to all but I will at the least leave a few words of thanks. WightMage
On that note, would anyone be interested in a donation matching event, where for every dollar someone donates to a mod author, the host donates a dollar to charity?
