MondPrinzessin
Hi ! I planning to play Dragon Age for the first time now. I want to know if there are some mods that are not changing the game to much but still are recommended. And if there are some, how can I install them? I m reading about a Dragon Age Tool but where exactly can I find it? Is it build in the game or do I have to download it from somewhere? Are the mods compatible with the german version of the game?? thank you MondPrinzessin
Thandal
Wilkommen, MondPrinzessin! The DA Toolset is available here: "DA Toolset" on the BSN, but unless you plan on building your own mods, you probably won't need it. To answer some of your other questions: a. There are several of us here on Nexus who have played the game multiple times. Many of us (like me) recommend that you use NO mods for your first time. None. Dragon Age is fantastic right out of the box. Yes there are some things that weren't fixed before BioWare released it, and more bugs that came to light afterwards, but it still "works" beautifully. b. After your first playthrough, you'll have a better idea of what the various kinds of mods can do, and a better appreciation of how they change the game for you when you're using them. c. For some basics about DA mods and a link to some recommended ones, see my mini-tutorial at the 2nd post here: "Using DA Mods for Dummies". d. As far as I know, all mods are "compatible" with the localized versions, but they are seldom TRANSLATED. So if there is any new/changed dialogue (or even descriptive text) it is likely to be in English only, or the modder's native language if that is not English. Happy Gaming!
HellsMaster
I dont know about compatible for the GR version but i think so.The tool you need to install mods is DAModder.I simply recommend playing the game through 1 time, get the hang of it ect. Then on 2nd play through get mods.
WastelandAssassin
i would also recommend that you play the game for the first time without any mods although the gameplay varies according to your character and group, the principals are still the sameso you should first understand what you already have, and establish what you would like to change, and then find the mods that do these changes also, you might want to start the first game with a rather easy difficultythis game is much more difficult then other group Hack n' Slash games that i've seen, so you should really learn how to go with it, before you start going crazy with the difficulty i think this is the best type of advice for a moddable game enjoy, and happy new year
Thandal
... The tool you need to install mods is DAModder.Only certain mods need anything to "install" them at all. Most mods are simply placed in the appropriate folder. The game has the built-in program "DAUpdater", which can recognize and handle a file packaged as a ".dazip". DAModder can too, and it can also re-name ".zip" files to ".dazip" and handle them. I prefer "DAO Modmanager", which handles ".dazip", (but not ".zip") files, and is the only one which can recognize and handle ".override" files.
MondPrinzessin
First thank you for the warm welcome and for all your answer! I think you are right, I should play it without any mods the first time, if there are no game breaker bugs ore something like that. And I will do that and return here after playing it through. (how long will that take?) greetings MondPrinzessin
XTR3M368
I am going to second the "playing through the first time without them" idea. The first reason being you will answer most of your own mod requests by understanding what you would want to improve, change or add to the game. That will help you ask for more specific mods and make it easier for us to recommend mods you are more likely to enjoy.....not just mods the WE like lol. I think that there will be very little disagreement from any of the others that one of the first mods you should get is from Dracomies called "Dragon Age Redesigned". It makes a whole lot of the NPCs and companions over so they are not so hideously ugly. It gets quite subjective after that due to personal preferences of each individual.
