Ren's mods

Previously I had Ren's beauty mod enabled for my old character, prior to my reformatting. Unfortunately it appears as if upon reinstalling oblivion and the mod that it won't enable. I know what the issue is, but I don't remember the name of the additional mods necessary to have the mod enabled. If I remember correctly the mod had 2 additional mods for it to work correctly, outside of Ren's official mod. Anyone know?

Thanks-

You'll also need the "KT Custom Race Fix" mod installed, in order to allow Ren's "Mystic Elf" race to function.

Here's one source for it:

http://files.filefront.com/KT+CustomRaceFi...;/fileinfo.html

There are a few other patches and "fixes" out there for Ren's mod, but none of them are actually required in order to make it work. For example, older video cards that don;t support "shader model 3.0" may need a specific fix in order to allow Ren's hairstyles to display properly. You can find some info on one version of that fix (Zeladin's Hair Fix mod) here:

Assuming that your hardware is not the culprit, then you just need the KT mod I mentioned above... anything else is optional.

NOTE: if you still can't get it to work after installing the "KyneTarse Custom Race Fix" mod, then your problem is either one (or more) of the following:

(1) Your Ren's installation is corrupt. Try downloading and installing a fresh copy of the latest version.

(2) You have a conflict happening between Ren's and one (or more) other mod(s). Try disabling your other mods, one at a time, to see if the problem goes away.

(3) You haven't installed the official v1.5 patch from Bethesda. Most mods are designed to function with the fully patched version of the game. You can find the update patch on Bethesda's site and elsewhere. Be sure to install it, and then re-install your other mods.

(4) The problem often has to do with time/date stamps on the game files. This is related to the official patch above. If you try everything above and none of them help, then you might try using a utility like Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM) to fix the mess, using its Archive Invalidation utilities to reset the time stamps on the various game files.

Hope this helps you out. If not, post another reply and we'll see what else we can try. 8)

BORING TECHNICAL NOTE: Keep in mind that whenever the game finds two files of the same name (as is usually the case when mods have been installed), it defaults to loading the newest version of that file. This is why some method of "archive invalidation" is needed. Unless the loader is given a list of specific exceptions - usually accomplished via a listing in ArchiveInvalidation.txt - it will simply load the newer files, regardless of whatever instructions it finds in the mod's .esp file. The OBMM utility can usually find, identify and fix this situation, but you'll still need to be sure that the official update patch has been installed first. Incidentally... the "official" patch claimed to fix a bunch of bugs, but it didn't really do that at all. At least, it didn't fix very many of them. No, the official patch mainly removed the nipples from the women in the game (LOL). That patch was released very soon after Bethesda got busted by the ESRB for having topless graphics embedded in the game's character models. What a world, eh..? :P

How serious are you about rescuing that save game? Tessera's advice about other mods having an effect is wise, but doesnt help if the problem relates to a mod that ISNT there - one that your save relies on.

If youre serious, then download 'Wrye Bash', an Oblivion tool described here:

http://wrye.ufrealms.net/Wrye%20Bash.html#Overview

Get a grip though because the tool relies on first installing the freeware development language 'Python'

Python 2.4.3 - 10 MB

wxPython 2.5.3.1 ANSI for Python 2.4 - 5 MB

Look at the very first screenshot in the above overview. The masters list for the savegame is shown at the bottom. The masters for the savegame are the mods (esps and esms) that the savegame depends on.
