TheNexus sent me spam!

Zenez

Recommended Posts

I don't know if you've heard, but with googlemail accounts, it is possible to trace the flow of knowledge of your e-mail address.

I'll elaborate.

A while ago, I noticed that my e-mail- let's say it's [email protected], could be sent to via any version of the zenez part, split by any number of full-stops (periods), for example, the e-mail would still be caught if it was to [email protected] or even [email protected].

Once I noticed this, I decided that so I could identify who leaked my e-mail, I would sign up for each website I ever did with a different combination of periods. For TheNexus forums, lets say it was [email protected].

Sometimes, when I'm anticipating an e-mail, I check my spam folder. Ordinarily, I have about 2 pieces in there, from stupid 'newsletters' I signed up for, but this time there was thirty-three! I checked the recipient e-mail, and indeed, it was [email protected]. I made a search for [email protected] in my e-mails and it matched only one non-spam e-mail, my sign-up e-mail for TheNexus forums.

Concluding, with no doubt that my e-mail had been leaked.

How?

For anyone else who might be affected, the e-mails have very short subjects, mostly in broken english, sometimes with spaces replaced by odd characters. For example "It's#time#to#buy#gifts!" and "It's*time*to*buy*gifts!", "You'll need! Soon Holidays!". Then they all have one link to websites of various iptrace origin, including turkey and russia.

Anyway, anyone else had similar e-mails or similar experiences with spam?
