Any Gun Mods Out There?

I hope that bethesda releases a crossbow as DLC. Everyone would by it.

I wouldn't, as a matter of principle. If they happened to include a crossbow in a significant expansion, I wouldn't object to that, however.

I think the community will come up with a crossbow faster than Bethesda. It'll take a while, but I don't think Bethesda is ever going to do it. We can make new meshes, textures, we have an advanced scripting program (OBSE), we found out how to make custom animations... Surely it can't be impossible.

Remember how there are somethings that are just hard-coded into the game? I think that is one of them, and i think if anyone can do it, its bethesda.

Yes but things OBSE can do and the whole animation thing were thought to be impossible too. Who knows, there might be a way around. New animations, use the crossbow as a staff, replace the magic ball you shoot with a crossbow bolt... Or something like that.

If everybody was like that, we wouldnt be where we are today :). Many things where thought impossible at first, but became possible with time. Seriously, who though people would walk on the moon one day?

The modding community is growing. There are people who know how to do custom animations, but unfortunatly, still quite rare. I dont think Besthesda will bother with something like that.

Nah.

Or... just go play Half-Life 2

LOL

:D

These posts are somewhat spammy Tessera, please keep in mind our rules on this. ;)

My apologies. In the future, I'll go into much greater detail as to exactly why I feel that mods such as this one have absolutely no place in an Elder Scrolls fantasy game, due to the ways in which they destroy immersion by directly clashing with the long-established game lore. I would have posted all of that in the first place, but I was trying to avoid the possibility of insulting the mod's creator(s).

It won't happen again. 8)

I somewhat agree with modern firearms destroying the game's lore. The only situation I see that the lore would not be destroyed if they were playing a "time traveller" based character, but to be fair, I have never run into someone talking about that being an aspect of their character.

Also, if the firearms are designed to look Dwemerish, but function like modern firearms, would be the best middle ground for this type of mod, and could satisfy the crowd wanting firepower but keeping the people who care about the games lore content as well.

Exactly. Someone is working on a jetpack and it looks very Dwemerish. It's still conflicting with the lore (the Dwemer didn't have jetpacks) but it's better than having something like this in the game, yes?

(Hey this is the first Dutch person I've seen around here. There are probably more but they don't have Dutch names... )

If it looks dwemerish, and the modder can somehow give a quick explaination on how it is the exception to lore (i.e. a genious hermit, a mix of levitation magic (Yes, I know that it is not in Obliv.) and mech., etc), then it should be a fine compromise, besides saying, "if you do not like it, do not download it," of course.

(BTW, I am not Dutch, I am an American of German heritage, sorry to disappoint you).

I'm not sure if hand(held) guns are really appropriate for TES. I have, however, heard allegations of the presence of cannon in, I believe, Redguard or Daggerfall. If, by "good" guns you mean a rapid-fire weapon, I'm not sure if this is possible. (As a weapon, at least. It would be simple enough to make a spell that would shoot a high-speed stream of spells)

Unfortunately, Oblvion doesn't support magic machine-guns. (If you want, I can upload a Morrowind screenshot demonstrating this)

I would like to see a decent crossbow mod.

Explain further, please.

"(As a weapon, at least. It would be simple enough to make a spell that would shoot a high-speed stream of spells)"

Really? I've tried hard (got it to work), but I didn't find an easy way around. Had to place hidden activators and all sorts'a odd workarounds.

"Unfortunately, Oblvion doesn't support magic machine-guns. "

You just said that it would be EASY to do a rapid-fire spell. How come we can't have machineguns? I could easily make up a machine gun (using bow mesh, of course ;)) if I had a stable rapid-fire system.

Oh - by the way, wanted to brag a little:

While making my homing arrows, I experimented with a lot of cool things.

One of them was making stationary cannons with targeting systems, toggle-able target and movies (the movies are NOT related to the cannons).
