Feltmarskal
I think about buying this GPU as it seems better and cheaper than a GTX570. I never used any ATI GPU's before, so will it run fine on a X58 motherboard? I currently have a GTX285, which needs to be replaced because it is broken in some strange way and it getting a bit old. Which comapany do you recommend? Sapphire, XFX or HIS?
Erik005
All HD 6950 currently available are reference models, they are all the same except the sticker. If you can you should wait for a version with a new cooler, lots of company's make very good signature coolers. HIS have the iCooler version. MSI makes the excellent lighting versions which are usually expensive though. Sapphire makes VaporX and toxic cards also very good. I would prefer the MSI lighting version. When you buy a reference model go for the cheapest ones, In Europe the store where you buy it should handle warranties.
Illiad86
Should have no problem running it on your motherboard. All of those brands are good :) XFX has a double lifetime warranty on their items though. Plus, you could give the card to your buddy later on and they get that same warranty. I have an HIS card, those are pretty good too. Just look for one with a decent heatsink with heatpipes on it :)
Feltmarskal
Ok my conclusion so far is that HIS and MSI are the best. So do i want to pay 18$ more for the MSI version of the card? I plan to change the BIOS to the Radeon 6970 HD, because they didn't lock the card, so i can get some extra performance for free. So it seems cooling is the most important thing in this case. MSI or HIS that is the question! Edited January 2, 2011 by Feltmarskal
Erik005
You'll have to research before the unlocking. The later versions with the new coolers might be laser-cut so you can't unlock them. Will the unlocked card be cool and quiet will the increased heat make your card loud and hot. You will also lose warranty so you cant return it to the store or manufacturer. Think very hard before doing this.

Think very hard before doing this.I doubt the manufactures would/can determine if a card has been unlocked, and even if they could tell the wouldn't care. I believe both cards have identical coolers. We're dealing with 6950s, not 465s.Rewards easily outweigh the risks.
CommanderCrazy
If you will add one more to your list, EVGA makes excellent cards too.
Erik005
EVGA does not make AMD cards, can't deny that they are good though. A bios flash will be detected you also have to set a little switch on the card itself. You will have to get one fast because amd has announced a revision. CommanderCrazy
Really? I thought they did.Regardless, a great company that exceeded my expectations.
Erik005
Only the very big Hardware companies carry both nvidia and amd. Asus, Gigabyte and MSI have a very big share in motherboard sales so they are allowed to sell both brands. Club3d seems to keep both sides happy to maybe they buy the cards directly from Amd or nvidia. So Feltmarskal if you get a 6950 now just go for the cheapest.
