LucasifTheOdd
Hey guys, I'm really just posting to say that I am one of those guys who emailed valve about paid mods. Now, I'm a bit funny in that I really was against the idea proposed as it was in the sense that it really came out of nowhere and the way it worked promoted what I foresaw as the overcrowding of not so good mods. EA DLC if you will. However, I did buy at least one mod. I did this because that mod brought something new, it brought something I didn't have. And I was happy to support someone bringing creativity into the community. Now, I'm not an active participant of the modding community and I get it, you guys know the stuff better than me. I won't refute that. But what I will refute is what I saw as a potential death of the pure creativity that modding brings. Macho man dragons? $1.50. I had to take the stance against the idea, at least how it was handled.I'm really not sure if posting this is against the rules of this forum section, mainly because I saw no rules but I figured that giving some passive input, nothing really thought provoking but I did want to voice my opinion. I may be late to this but I really wanted to just say that I am passionate about the amazing things that have been brought out by modding and a threat to that creativity and child-like splendour legitimately made me feel sick. It was like innocence had been lost and modding had been exposed to the real world. At least for me. I don't want anyone being vile here, I would just like to see what people think and whether my ideas have brought some people who thought those who were against this idea some understanding into people. I am the minority who freaked about but I'm really not against it because of the monetary cost. In the end, the pure curiosity and wonder matter to me. Let us all promote an idea of creativity over all. Sorry if I did anything wrong or annoyed anyone. I just wanted to let people know what I think. HeyYou
Paid mods would be fine, IF (and that's a mighty big IF) Beth/Valve would actually put some effort into impementing it in a workable form, rather than just slap the paywall on something..... Also, the line "bring out more creative mods" I think was just a hook, hoping the community would swallow it. As it was, all paid mods were going to do was generate controversy, and bad feelings. Valve figgered that one out pretty quick, and dropped the project, for now..... Trouble is, I don't see either Valve, or Beth actually wanting to invest in this properly, to make it work. All we will see is half-measures, and propaganda, telling us what a great idea it is, but, implementation will still be terrible, and we will end up with the same results we got this time around.
