Malchik
The chests have two separate series (possibly more) the 39 I refer to are only weapons or armour related. Number 10 is a skull shield and number 20 the Ice Blade, 30 is a crossbow called Rhino Killer and 40 The Rune Bow etc. I can post a list of contents and locations but it might be more fun for you to explore. If you get a special item and ask I'll tell you where in the list you have reached if you wish. The reason you don't find them is they are mostly in places hard to reach (or hard to open because of NPCs). A good place to explore is along the two river banks (north and south) both east and west of Silden. E.g. Follow it on the north side west of Trelis temple to the shrine of Beliar (which has a magic item chest). On the south side you can explore a lot of it on both sides of Lago. If you look carefully enough you'll find the only hostile Orc camp in Varant. They have a weapon chest. I don't know about reach. I started three games. In two I used a sword and currently a two bladed staff, blessed and sharpened.
BHWolf
I don't think I have ever come across a weapons/armour only chest. Currently I am quite near to Lago so I'll track down the Orcs. Does anyone know if one's strength has any effect on damage, or does it just qualify you to use a weapon that determines the damage?
Malchik
The chests have random cheap loot and one special piece of weaponry or a shield or a blueprint. The magic chests have random cheap loot and a magical item such as the Judge's Staff, Bless Weapon scroll or at the highest level I believe a pure ore blank. (Not sure about the last one though.) AFAIK strength only affects the weapon you can wield. The damage effect is the weapon and its condition. Worn gives half the stated amount. Sharpening adds something and so does blessing. The weapon that requires most strength is the Demon Sword (a joke intended at 666 strength). Not sure what damage it does. If you use the spell summon demon and then dismiss it you get the sword, so it's easy enough to find them. Next strongest are the Orc weapons. BHWolf
Found that chest of the orcs in Varant; it contained a mercenary crossbow.Later last night found another chest and discovered a Skull shield. By the end of last night I ran into the 75% rep dilema in Varant. Whilst I am no angel my character is allied with the Nomads and Water Mages. Wiping them out is not really an option, so I supect it will be seize the artifact and slaughter the bad guys before I return north.
Malchik
If you do that you lose a lot of learning points but why not save and try both? You can do all cities but Ishtar without killing any water mages or slaves but you won't be able to get into the (unexciting) gold mine in Ben Erai without killing Hurit. Four lots of Nomads are evil anyway!
BHWolf
I could always clear the Hashishin out of Ben Erai after completing most of the quests?Did this at Lago and do not appear to have lessen my reputation. Trawling through Mora Sul at the moment but cannot for thelife of me find this character Gonzales!
Malchik
If you clear two cities you are okay (Al Shedim temple counts as a city). After that the next leader you meet will warn you that if it happens again they will kill everyone they don't know. If you liberate a third location you will be able to talk to everyone except the leader. If and when you approach the leader he will attack you and from then on ALL hashishin in every other city will attack on sight. Gonzales is the leader of Mora Sul in the palace. You need 75% rep to see him. Also inside the palace is the mage Ningal who rewards you for a quest and gives you another. To get 75% you need various gifts (a package of swampweed from Lago is one) as is the moonblade. Winning the arena is necessary and then a couple of local quests. The points total 100 but this is not straightforward as 5 results from killing a slave and another 10 will put your collection of fire chalices in a mess. If you need info google gamepressure. They list all quests and the rep points for each (no spoiler info, it is just a list).
BHWolf
thanks for the heads up. Co-incidently i have already come across the paladin and slave so I have that chalice already.
BHWolf
During last night's play I discovered something that may be of interest to those exploring the vicinity of Mora Sul. One can get into and out of the Temple without the keys. What you need is the acrobatics skill and a teleporter stone. One can jump up on to the roof of the temple from one of the excavations sites adjacent to it (Where the slaves are digging and the crane is situated). Then jump down into the temple from the roof, though I suggest you take out the undead immedaietly visable to give yourself time to regain your health. Use the teleporter stone to exit. Submitted just for info. Cheers
Malchik
Yeah. The first time I went there I fell in by accident. It may screw up a few quests though.
