  1. All my attempts to create a decent looking dunmer for this game fails. Guess I'm in the minority who liked Oblivion face system. Its a videogame, I don't worry too much if its not exactly like the lore said, just have to look good and playwell. Cyrodiil was not a tropical forest like the lore, but I like its varied landscape more than Skyrim. The Khajit and Argonians looks meaner in this game, but lost a good deal of personalities, all of them male and female looks very mean and no other characteristics. Of course, on the dialog side, the shop owners are boring too. But atleast there is a better atmosphere in towns and bars, but not by a lot.
  2. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a lock spell for Skyrim, don't know if you can do it in the console to lock doors anymore. Just catch her in her own room then lock the door. Just another detail from previous games that Bethesda left out.
  3. I don't play that many games, the last game I bought was Oblivion 5 years ago. I don't take it too seriously, if I get stuck, I don't mind lowering the difficulty or turn off collision (since there are no more levitation.) Although the Elder Scrolls series are the only games I get into since they have some good writings, so I do read the books in the game. I don't know the writers for this game, but I wish Bethesda give them more credit, they really make the foundation for the game. Lots of the game books materials are influenced from real life religion, etc. Without those materials, the game might just be another boring elves game. I play as an unarmored mage + archer, and I've been dying more often in this game so that raised the challenge I guess. Biggest problem of this game (and the previous) is too much concentration on dungeon and indoor. I enjoy doing the hiking and being outdoor, the overworld of this game seems a bit small after you discovered everything.
  4. Well it seem both has their good and bad sides. Ulfrid seems to not care for other races besides the Nord. I prefer to go against both of them if the game have that option, but I haven't progress far into the game. It's interesting how will the Elder Scrolls writers take their story, continue the Empire collapse or unite it. If they unite it then its easier for them to to stick with the king and queen stuff which isn't that interesting to me. I'd like to see them keep continue with the collapse and have the main character lead the actual uprising.
  5. FYI, there were unicorns in Oblivion. I like the atmosphere for intended purposes. I still think the lighting is more realistic than Oblivion, but needs to be edited. As I said before, the choice to make the night visible is a marketing decision. The transition of weather are inconsistent, it can go from sunny to snowy instantly and more than often its snowy. I prefer longer clear sky periods just to enjoy the vistas.
  6. I hope there will be a mod to make all dragons disappear like with the cliff racers.
  7. Good ideas that reminded me of Betrayal of Krondor, which is still the best RPG I've played. But they will never ever implement that, they dumb the game down in the first place to make it more appealing to more people. I think there was a mod for Oblivion or Morrowind of the likes though. Not all of us are complaining cuz we dont enjoy the game, but they would never improve their games with flawless feedbacks, that's the point of a discussion forum, otherwise I'd go buy an iPhone.
  8. Just about any battles with anything tougher than Cave Bear is easy death for me since not wearing armor. It'll be a little better once there is an unarmored mod.
  9. It depends on your monitor, some monitor shows everything, but have unrealistic contrast. An IPS monitor + tuned with a colorimeter would make it more realistic. But the decision to make the dark more navigable is a marketing decision by Bethesda to make the game more playable. This can be tuned with community mods hopefully in the future. Or you can mess with the brightness setting.
  10. It looks like something for the community to mod, I think it actually could be easy with just changing the size ratio of the object. But I'm not sure how moddable this game since it doesn't come with an editor and conjoined with steam.
  11. I am using: -Core2Quad Q6700 2.66ghz (old despite the speed) -fanless PowerColor AMD HD5700. Video card settings: 1920x1080 2xAA 2xAF Mipmap Detail Level - Highest quality Others - OFF Game settings: Texture Quality - High Water - All ON Radial Blur & Shadow - Low View Distance - Max ALL Grass Fade - OFF (Only because its easier to see enemy and objects, but I think it help with FPS a lot too.) My FPS ranges from 40-60fps. AMD Catalyst latest drivers here: desktop, laptop
  12. ^Actually so far the dragons annoy the heck out of me, it seems to be a delaying factor while I'm trying to explore. The glacier cliffs and ices is the major thing with Skyrim imo, absolutely beautiful. Since I'm a fan of Morrowind, I like to see even stranger places, like Black Marsh or some off continent places. But Valenwood or Elsweyr would be interesting too. I doubt they'll make any of the three mentioned and stick to conventionals which appeals and easier to identify to the mass gamers.
  13. Morrowind is special for me. Mainly because it has such a different and mysterious atmosphere, I guess its beside the point for most gamers who won't be reading into Elder Scroll lores. I can understand why people dislike the bleak landscape, but it appeal to me. Oblivion saw a departure to the conventional and related to the general topic of dungeon and dragons and lord of the rings, same as Skyrim, its stuff I've already seen, so it didn't have the same charm. The same goes with Jeremy Soule composing, he really expanded and improves over time. The newer scores are easier to appeal to the emotions, while Morrowind required a bit of imagination. That is not to say I'm not loving the Skyrim scores as well. I guess it's a game that required more input so its less appealing on that aspect.
  14. It enjoyed playing Skyrim from the beginning. My first though about the game is Bethesda spent a lot of time looking at the community mods and incorporated those ideas to improve from Oblivion. It's sort of like Oblivion with lots of mods and less crashing. At the sametime it simplifies even more from Oblivion, which is why I think it should be more profitable than Oblivion for them. The landscape is beautiful and incredible, especially for the glacier areas which are majestic. Unfortunately the developers still haven't implement enough new ideas so the gameplay is still limited, if not more limited than Oblivion. Traveling through the overworld is still a lonely experience, except for trying to avoiding beasts too powerful for you and the dragons. I like how beasts are tougher and your first encounter with a saber tooth or cave bear is a tough and long fight. But I hate dealing with these dragons 10 times more than the cliff racers, especially when you're trying to explore. To make the overworld more lively, there should've been things like outside flee market next to the farms, more traveling people, carnivals, sailing, and any other miscellaneous things that apply to the game series, ie. stuff to do outdoor besides hiking. The game textures are fine, I do know it could be better, but I'm happy the game run smooth with my fanless HD5700 card. Just make sure your video card's mipmap details is set to highest. Dislikes: -Clunky fighting: Not sure if its just me, but I think its much easier to fight in Oblivion, its not so fun to melee in this game. Hand on hand combat is not very good. I haven't got to high level of archery, but using the bow is clunky. I prefer how the arrows arch itself in Oblivion so I have to calculate my aim, so sure if its also true in Skyrim. -Magic abuse: You can get 20MP on level up and it regenerate very fast, so I just run around during fight waiting for it to fill up. Since its less clunky than the weapons and very powerful I abuse it. -Alchemy: It's more difficult to get alchemy ingredients which I like so I can't abuse making 99 healing health potions for example. But there aren't many types of potions to make and I don't like having to do it stationary, including smithing. I want potions to walk on water, feather, jump high, slow fall, and those miscellaneous properties. Unless I'm wrong, it seems there are no limit to number of potions you can use at once, which make fights easy. With that said, they added smithing which is cool. -Face maker: This topic has been covered enough. Having problem creating an attractive face, my char looks ugly. This can be a positive effect so when I go to download mods for this game its not all nude and pretty emo chick mods, I think Nexus should create a separate section for that stuff so I don't have to wade through them. -No stats: Very disappointing! Well they merges the stats with the skill, but you still lose some skills since its too simplified. I think their "level up constellation" is copied from that Final Fantasy game. -Audio gain: The gain of the explore music is too low and the battle music is too loud, I hate that. But the music is within the *.bsa file, so I can't delete the battle songs or make changes to them. But can I understand as it's part of the game system ability to have greater manipulation with the music such as resuming a song. Effects by default are too loud. Yes you can change the volume for effect and voice, etc, but if I was designing a game, I would definitely pay attention to those things. -Less guilds and factions. Overall, this game delivers a better gameplay experience than Oblivion for players who aren't into RPG can still enjoy it, but I think I will finish it sooner and go back to Morrowind or Oblivion which has more gameplay details. With much simpler stats and less detailed character aesthetic (face makers, clothings) I feel my character doesn't have much identity in Skyrim.
