Alyeid Soul Gems with OOO's Leviathan's Soul Gems

Mod in question : Oblivion - Soulgems

I'd really like this mod to go with leviathan's soul gems (installed via OOO), but do not want any of the modifications to the soul gem mechanics. I believe OOO balances them just fine, and don't want to tinker with their mechanics any further. I do however, like the look of the alyeid soul gems. I've tried packaging OOO into a BSA named Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul - BSA.BSA, deleting Oblivion - Soulgems.esp, and changing Oblivion - Soulgems.bsa into Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul - Soulgems.BSA, making sure the modified date of soulgems.bsa was more recent than BSA.bsa. It didn't work. It should work right? Anyways, I've attempted to dive into the ESP to gut it of all the mechanics changes, but it is too much for me to wade through. Does anyone have some genius way of getting this to work?

To make matters worse, when I use the mod as prescribed, I don't even get the updated soul gems, so I now have two problems on my hands :(

If you only want the look of Oblivion - Soulgems then all you need to do is place that texture(s) into the proper folder, and viola!

You mention you are having problems getting them to show up even with the mod installed fully then you likely have one of three things happening.

  1. Improper Installation of the mod and its' resources
  2. You need Archive Invalidation - Read the article linked below. Both OBMM and Wrye Bash have built-in Archive Invalidation.
  3. Operating System interference. If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 and installed Oblivion to the default directory UAC is likely giving you problems.

a1: For mod installation issues you need to refer to the ReadMe of said mod for further information on proper use.

a2: The following is information related to missing resources and Archive Invalidation.

Missing Textures |

Scroll down to the Pink or Missing Textures Section.

You likely need Archive Invalidation.

a3: And finally, Windows Vista/Windows 7 UAC information.

Are you using Windows 7 or Vista? Did you install Oblivion to the default directory of Program Files? If you answered yes to to both then you are likely experiencing, or will experience problems due to UAC, Windows security. Windows doesn't like it when an application, program, or even the user, attempts to alter files in a protected directory. UAC sees this a potential security threat and treats it as a malicious attack and blocks the action from happening. To prevent this you need to install Oblivion outside the jurisdiction of UAC, to an unprotected directory. A popular and suitable location is <drive letter>:\Games\Oblivion. For information on proper installation I suggest you follow Bben's Reinstall Procedure.

If that's not the case then you have either improperly installed the mods, therefor needing to completely uninstall and reinstall the mods properly according to the ReadMe, or you need to activate, or update, Archive Invalidation. You might also want to read the section about Pink or Missing Textures Section.

Another great resource is Tomlong's site, TESIV:POSItive. She has included information on nearly every aspect of Oblivion you might need help or just be curious about. It has information to suite anyone from beginner to advanced. I urge everyone to bookmark this site and soak up as much information as you possibly can.

That should cover it.

All you needed to do was to package the meshes and textures (no esp, and no bsa) from Oblivion Soulgems into an OMOD and install it AFTER you've installed OOO, thus overwriting the meshes and textures that you want. If you do that, remember not to redistribute it without permission.

After trying all of these wonderful suggestions, and still having no luck, I delved into the ESP. It has a compatibility option for mods such as leviathans soul gems. What this does is make completely new soul gems, named Ayleid Greater Soul Gem and the like. So when I checked my normal soul gems, it did not work. So in order to get the benefits of this mod, I had to include the ESP. I was able to gut out the ESP of all of the mechanics changes using CSE and TES4EDIT, and it works great! Thanks for your time and help :)
