A few issues with controller and where to install...

I was having some trouble with my xbox360 controller that I bought for the PC, it is wired. I have installed all the drivers necesary for it from the microsoft site, and it works perfectly fine with left 4 dead 2 which I got from steam.

I got oblivion as well from steam, the GOTY deluxe edition. Now, steam is located in my program files (x86). I know a lot of people say that it is a huge no no for oblivion to be located there if you want to use mods...

my first question is with the controller... how do I get it to work with oblivion? When I try to use it, mycharacter moves at a literal snails pace... and I can't assign basic things like the left analog stick to move and such.... how do i get the controller to act like it would if I was playing the xbox version where all the buttons are assigned how they are for that version?

the second question... did I screw myself over with steam being located in the program files (x86) since that's where the steamapps folder is (the one that contains oblivion and left 4 dead)? If so, how can I move the steam folder from that location to say, the desktop so it won't have that nasty security issue? Is there a way to do it? Or do I have to totally un install steam, and re install it while choosing a nother destination for it? Is there a way to move JUST the oblivion folder whe steam finishes downloading it to the desktop or something soI will be able to use mods?

OR is there a work around for if the oblivion folder resides in the program files (x86) to get it to ignore that i'm using mods and to leave them alone and let them work as intended?

I'm using windows 7 premium home edition, if you didn't catch that lol.

i'm so fed up and frustrated with this... i'm wondering If i should just go on amazon and get it online since everywhere else I checked doesn't have it for sale :O.

any advice is apprecaited....

Wow, on your second question, Yes, no, no idea. Yes you did give yourself a bit of a headache with putting it in the program files, although i never personally had a problem until i started modding, when i found out it wouldn't save my mods, but other mods that i downloaded were fine. Never put ANY large file on your desktop, i made that mistake with putting the unpackaged oblivion files on my desktop, and it boosted my explorer.exe process to over 128kb, not a good., and i cannot personally say about Steam as i have never used it, but i would think that you would need to uninstall them and reinstall them directly into a folder located at the directory of C:\Steam\

As for Question 1, i am not positive, but in the C:\Users\"My_Name"\Documents\My Games\Oblivion, then the file named oblivion, i think you can edit your controllers. Ahh yes you can, as for how to do so, i suggest you take a look at http://uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Controls#Xbox_360_Controller_for_Windows

Thanks for the controller info... Lol now I have to figure out why this game wants to give me "oblivion has stopped running" error every time I exit the game...

Seriously... this game is so rediculous at times, and so giving at others... why must it be so cruel to me? LOL
