Blank Screen Bug

Would someone help me please?

I have just installed Oblivion along with a few mods. I launched it, and it worked fine. I then exited Oblivion to install another mod, and upon restarting and loading my save I got a blank screen. Thinking it was the mod, I deactivated it, to no effect. I then did the same for all the mods, but still no change. I keep getting the blank screen whenever I load the save, the journal, menus and heads up display still show as normal, but everything else is blank. I have checked my laptops specs and they are far above the minimum requirement, I don't think there is a graphics card issue (as there was no problem the first time). I then thought to reinstall Oblivion, but still the same problem whether I loaded my save or started a new game. I don't know what to do.

Did you get out of the tutorial dungeon?

If not, what are your video card specs. You can find them by running a Dxdiag (Run (XP) or Start (Vista or 7), type in "dxdiag" (without the quotes), save the report to a desktop text file (default).

I followed your advice, dxdiag says my display device (which I assume is something to do with a graphics card) is an Intel Graphics media accelerator. I then went to change my graphic settings for Oblivion. Apparently Oblivion can't actually detect my graphics hardware, so it automatically chose its own settings. It seemed to start working after that though, so problem solved.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. Goodness knows I definitely need it.

If it's working for now great, consider yourself lucky. You're playing on unsupported, inadequate hardware. Oblivion, and any other modern game requires an actual graphics card, not a graphics chip, which is what you have. Graphics chips simply don't have the horsepower to run demanding games like Oblivion. However if you have any other issues whether it's graphics related or random crashes it will be impossible to diagnose, since it will most likely be the fact that you have inadequate hardware. And since this is a laptop it's not feasible to upgrade to an actual video card. Just keep all this in mind next time you buy and be sure to get a PC with a graphics card, not chip, for gaming. Desktops of course are best (for gaming) since they are (usually) very easily upgraded.

I hope you can play and enjoy the game, but I caution you on adding any mods at all really. Just be glad the game is running and enjoy it.
