SpacemanSpIiff Posted January 8, 2011 Share Posted January 8, 2011 *Note*: I have since completely reinstalled oblivion, wiping the entire folder and restarted from scratch* A week ago, I was playing around with my oblivion, doing some modding work myself, and playing the game. I had a save file with 40+ hours into it, lvl 15 and climbing. My game was somewhat stable, it did have its crashes here and there but nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing went wrong until I tried to put together an esp. I was working on a little mod for myself, having put together the models and textures together and got them into my oblivion directory where they should go. Then I decided to put them in the game like you usually would by making a simple mod. This is when trouble struck. I loaded the esp up and started my game excited to see my work. I started the game, all went well. Decided to load my latest save. Half way through loading it Crashes to desktop. "Not good." I say to myself. I try again, a few times. Same result. At first I think its my esp, maybe something went wrong, whatever. I unchecked the esp I made, and booted my game up. Loaded last save. Same result. "wow okay, maybe my save game is corrupt or something". I load a backup save, I save often and with multiple saves. Back up saves 1,2,3,4, and 5 all CTD on load. "...I'm going to lose my save game Aren't I?" I ask myself. I decide to rip the resources for my mod out of my game completely, thinking that maybe something was wrong with the nif or texture files and oblivion wasn't liking them, and retry all my saves. Same result. So I decide to just start a new game, whatever, its just time lost. Same result. Something I did between saving my game like I normally do and the 3d/mod work I did totally screwed up my game. Nothing I could do could fix the issue. I have since completely reinstalled my game from scratch, I'm just wondering if anyone here could shed light on what happened so It can possibly be avoided in the future? I tore everything out meaning I uninstalled oblivion, whiped out the bethesda folder, and then reinstalled. The CTD on load anything has been fixed if you read the absolute first line of the opening post. This topic was just for me to ask the community why it was CTDing before I whiped my folder. Hickory Posted January 9, 2011 Share Posted January 9, 2011 Yes, I did misunderstand, but the fault lies with lack of communication. You see, I, nor anybody else reading your post, is privvy to what you have or have not done, and sloppy wording leads to just such misunderstanding -- it's all in the details. Still lacking information, I can only advise you to do a complete reinstall (cleaning out your Oblivon fold does not do this). Best to follow Bben's reinstall procedure, then you can be sure that all traces of prior installs are removed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
marcelteaching Posted March 21, 2011 Share Posted March 21, 2011 Interestingly, deleting the oblivion folder in your "My Games" is essential when doing a full reinstall.
