New Computer Build Part List

Recommended Posts

Stick with 4GB, you'll rarely utilize the extra 4. Using four sticks on a dual channel board isn't that smart either. Also, that motherboard is the wrong socket type for that i5.

I thought that the old i5 could still work on the new p67 chipset as long as the socket is a LGA 1155 not 1156

Also Zephyr Kronos, keep in mind that buying a blue ray drive does not guarantee that you can play blue ray movies. It seems at the moment there is only one software what will do blue ray playback well and that is Power DVD (which should come with your drive). However its a crap shoot if it will actually work or just BSOD on you. (I know because I have this exact drive and have tried it and got the BSOD, though not too surprised seeing its crappy Power DVD)

No the old i3/i5/i7 only work with socket 1156 and the new ones only work with socket 1155.

The is however an Asrock transformer board that has socket 1156 with the p67 chipset.

I think Urbex is right, i5 would be fine...., but if you are set on a i7 system, well here's a partial list o' parts

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost)

LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K

GIGABYTE GA-H67A-UD3H LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s

USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (ATI CrossfireX ready, just double your video order if you want 2 vid cards!)

CORSAIR Hydro H70 CWCH70 120mm High Performance CPU Cooler

(liquid cooler with 2 fan radiator)

VisionTek 900338 Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity (times 2 for crossfire mode)

WD VelociRaptor 10,000rpm 16mb cache SATA HD drive (or 2 if you want to run in RAID)

I would get at least a 700 watt power supply; I like the Antec PS's currently.

I have a Antec 850W TruePower Quattro right now, it's a little overkill, but i got it

about 2 years ago on a discount deal, and I've had no problems with it on my current system.

Happy Building! :P
