alaron828
Hi. I have been an avid player of Oblivion for over 4 years now. I have successfully integrated over 90 mods without the use of any Unofficial Patches over the years, but now I've run into a problem that turned into a mountain. After downloading Nehrim, and playing it for a few days and being amazed at how wonderful it all looked, I wanted to finish my Oblivion questing before committing to such an extensive adventure Nehrim appeared to be. Upon switching back, using all the appropriate directions that came with the mod to ensure no issues, I could no longer enter Leyawiin, then Cheydinhal, then Chorrol, etc. I figured a 3 game day wait in Frostcrag would help, and it did somewhat. I could enter Leyawiin again, but Chorrol still froze halfway through loading. To counter this, I figured uninstalling Nehrim would help (as my save file was over 350 hours long and I really did not want to start over again just yet). Point of fact, it didn't. So, I took a look at some of what was missing and all my data files, bsa's, textures and meshes were in the right places and working fine. (I use OBMM by the way just for load order as I am relatively knowledgeable with how a game program works). So, maybe finally getting to download those beautiful Unofficial patches that everyone raves about would help. And it did, I gained another city entry, this time to Cheydinhal. A few more 3 game day waits, and I thought I'd be golden. Been wanting to make some gear at my forge in Ellesynd Estate (spokorni, you're the best home mod creator on Earth!), so I spent some time there making all kinds of gear. Unfortunately, since I desire to make a long story short, I ended up reinstalling Oblivion and every DLC, mod, and patch I use. (Load order attached to this post). Upon reinstall, I loaded up my save file, and after an hour of puzzling through, I decided to try a new game (allows me to work with a few mods I've not tried yet, like Zek's Oblivion Reforged mod and Dibella's Watch). So, as I said, I thrived for four years with no Unofficial patches needed, mainly because I'm not a stickler for out of place rocks. However, I really wanted to give these extremely popular mods a shot, so I installed them to this new install. Ok, all is working very well. I did an OBMM bsa redirect, then an invalidation, found some missing meshes, the redirected again, and we're whistling pretty. Until I arrived in Aleswell. I use some Silent MP3s for Kragenir's DQ and a couple of other non-voiced mods, but never have I had this issue. Upon entering the inn to receive the quest from Diram, he approaches me as normal, but there is no voice. And the silent mp3 is set to 3 sec which is too fast (all my others are set at 8 sec). I'm attaching my load order so everyone can maybe help me figure out where I might find an issue, because I'm just tired and could use some assistance. Thanks. Ynguatep
Usually I'm not good at figuring out this kind of problem, but tghen, I had a similar problem when I still used my German version of Oblivion: English mods, even if voiced, usually had no voice. When I switched that because I wanted voice for Better Cities EV, all other NPCs fell silent. Do you have any mod installed in another language, no matter if it affects Aleswell directly? alaron828
Besides Nehrim, which fubar'd my original install, I had installed the Order of the Dragon mod, which the original bsa and esp are in German, however, someone has recently produced an English translation which overwrites the German esp and any German voice and dialogue files, so I'm assuming there shouldn't be any problems, unless within the bsa directly. However, since OotD is my most recent major mod, let me try to disable this mod and see what happens. Disappointing if it does, as Order of the Dragon looked really exciting. Unless the Unofficial patches are screwing with my game, hmm. Funny thing is since I install 2-3 mods at a time, (yes I know it is not the smartest thing to do, but hey 4 years!!! of no issues, I'd say I was on a roll), so this issue may be a result of the Unofficial patches. I'll mess around with it and update this post. Thanks Ynguatep. Btw, how did my load order look? I usually never had any red conflicts until the Unofficial patches that is, but I understand that they are meant to be that way. (tested via OBMM conflict manager). Now that I have the Unofficial patches and I'm trying a slightly more organized load order, I was just wondering if it looked ok.
Ynguatep
It could be that the patches have replaced some files from other mods. The patches themselves are really neat as far as I experienced. When I installed them recently, I did this before I added all other mods, and noticed that for example Better Cities already replaces some files from the patches. No surprise there, but problems happened a year ago when I installed the patches after BC, then re-installed BC et alia after the patches, and ended up with a playable game, but all sorts of minor issues. That still doesn't explain why vanillia speech files would disappear / not work any more, and why only specific ones instead of all of one language. I remember that I had a mix of working / not working English speech files when I played through the Better Cities quests (EV, because it's only complete there) installed with a German version of Oblivion. Most of it was okay, but some NPCs were mute even if it was obvious by the subtitles that they were supposed to have English speech. All German voices were muted definitely at that point. 'Sides, if it's only the guy in Aleswell ... invisible and mute, he must be happy about the existence of subtitles ... maybe it's still worth the try to play OotD. Since someone posted a bunch of marvellous screenshots last year, I drool on my keyboard when I think about eventually playing this campaign. :)
alaron828
Thanks. I did note that the patches like to be installed first prior to anything else. Upon further investigation, I found that all Dunmer and Altmer in the game were muted. Truth be told, this made for a very eerily quiet experience, and was a little discomfiting. :ermm: I decided to do a very clean reinstall, and so far, so good. I have an end of sewers save file that is only the base esm with no mods or DLCs to work with and I have gently installed mods one by one to see what happens. Most likely I will never be able to recreate this issue, so I'm going to cough it all up to an error on my part during install of one of my recent major mods. And yes, OotD is drool worthy. Any time dragons and/or castles are mentioned, I get excited. I will put that one on hold though, until I finish Dibella's Watch. Thanks for you input, it did help a lot.
