  1. So, I wanted to give this thread a possible solution in case someone googles it (since I found tons with no solution by now and only one from the 2nd era which provides one). Oblivion Stutter Remover dealt with the freezes. A few crashes remain, especially on using doors. Crashes on transitions of exterior cells have become rare to the point which is nigh inevitable with Oblivion. Most of all, I don't need to restart my computer every 5-20 minutes. I also found Streamline as a suggestion, but since OSR works so well for me, I didn't try it out.
  2. I've watched these freezes now long enough for empirical evidence ... just kidding. But it turns out clearly that the problem is connected to the game loading content / cells, since all crashes happen at cell transitions / on entering or leaving buildings or worldspaces. Most happen immediately, only a few when loading is almost finished. The problem is definitely global with higher likability in and around cities. I hope that someone still knows a solution for this; I'm unfortunately out of wits.
  3. Since I run it via Steam, I think I don't. Update: Freezes happen possibly anywhere. I also found some double NPCs from the vanilla game, but didn't manage to trace back which mod might cause them. This is possibly a savegame problem, still need to check on that. Whether it's related to the freezes, I'm not sure. CrashLogger works fine btw for the rare ctd I get. :)
  4. Heyo, I use WryeBash and BOSS, since I had much less problems with it than with LOOT (I do use the latter for Skyrim). I don't want to use OBMM since I ran into problems with it in the past and also have two instances of Oblivion installed, the Steam version for playing, the other one (DVD version) for testing my own mod. OBMM would work only for one and automatically detects the latter. Meanwhile I ruled BC out since freezes also happened e.g. on entering Wawnet Inn. My current guess is All Natural's indoor weather since it appears to be a global problem.
  5. So, I tried Crash Logger and had a good while of playing without crashes (of course now.) :) I went on foot to Chorrol, through the woods, and entered the stables. On exit, the game froze again. When these freezes happen, the music keeps playing, ambient too for a moment. I cannot open the task manager, instead Oblivion is back, but I have a few moments to restart my device. If I don't use them, I can only shut it down the hard way and restart completely. There is unfortunately no logfile. Another thought: Could the reason lie in the order in which I installed the mods, due to re-installing the patches after everything else? Best, Ynguatep
  6. Intel Core i5-7500K 3.80GHz 16 GB RAM I'll try Crash Logger asap, thanks! :) One of my guesses was the newest version of BC, but then, I know BC as a very well maintained mod, same as UL (thinking of Skingrad Outskirts). If there was such an issue, I'd believe it would have been fixed since quite some time, so it can be only some incompatibility which I can't make sense of, or even something entirely unrelated.
  7. Hi folks, I've just re-installed the Steam version of Oblivion on my mostly new desktop computer, then added my usual bunch of mods (most freshly downloaded) via WryeBash, sorted them with the latest BOSS and started to play. Initially, everything went smoothly. ~5hrs into the game, I noticed that I missed an update on the Unofficial Patches, reinstalled them, sorted anew, rebuilt the Bashed Patch. I'm somewhere in the surroundings of Skingrad, and my game is now very prone to freeze so completely that I need to restart. It happened near the stables as well as near the tomatoe fields, mostly even on entering or leaving the modded suburbs north of Skingrad from the west. If it were only this, I'd know where to seek, but it also happened entering the Julianos Chapel and once without noticeable reason inside the city. Performance should be no issue. All mods and DLCs which need cleaning are cleaned, and I'm out of wits enough to cry for help here. Best, Ynguatep ___ Win 10 Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Active Mod Files:

But that does not prohibit me for accepting donations (sic! ) I merely had to note how ungrateful the games biz already is, and I would be deeply disappointed if the modding area turns out to be as ignorant towards modders as the biz is towards the people which make it possible. All of this here would not exist without modders. They mod not only for their fun, but for everyone's. To say "donations spoil the fun" sounds like "you did not earn a thanks". Well, thanks for that. Mods are still free. If you don't want to or can't donate, don't do it. Nobody will be blamed for that.

What Ducksaws wrote is a common thing you get to hear as a dev in the games business. Sad, but true. You got your dream job, don't whine about money. Believe me this can spoil the dream job completely. This is why I believe that mod donations are a sign of respect. You can't earn actual money by modding, you'll hardly get your time paid (exceptions may happen). I see this, as Patreon and donations of this kind in general, as a revival of the almost extinct support for artists named after Maecenas. Pay an artist if you want something special, donate to them if you like their art. Or mods. Games are art, after all. To tell an artist, or anyone else who adds to cultural wealth without getting paid, that taking donations is evil, is to tell them to starve. It is also a sign of appreciation. Basically, you call modder's work worthless, or them worthless 'cause they "spoil" it by monetary issues. Each modder can decide for themselves whether they want donations or not. Some won't need it, some might be happy to be rewarded. Try to earn your living with art and / or making games for a while. I do, and wasn't even able to afford a gambison, not even speaking about chainmail or traveling to medieval reenactment events regularly. "do something that gives you pleasure" is easily said if you've got a regular income. Even people who work nine-to-five in the games biz (more like nine-to-late, lol) who mod in their spare time might like to see a "thank you" in words or coin from time to time. Also don't forget modders who work with a team, mostly working for free, who use the donations to pay their coders, composers and testers, or also just to say "thanks".
  11. GotY comes only with SI and Knights, as you said. But it's no problem to copy the other DLC files ffrom the steam folder and use them with the retail version ... okay, at least it's no problem with the Anthology (which is GotY on disk, everything else Steam only). You would at least need two game versions that use the same language. Best for Oblivion: use WryeBash. :) That's still no solution for your question as it is ... sorry!
  12. Whew. So I guess it was the right decision to install the retail again. :) I can't imagine any more to work without CSE. My mods are almost completely level design, and it's a pain to do that with the original CS. In one of the many readme files I skimmed some days ago, I found the note that Win 8.1 + Steam version + CSE is the config which likely works least of all. I hoped that it would run with Win 7, but nope. Not even OBSE. For the full steam experience, GoTY retail plus the missing AddOns like Mehrunes' Razor copied from the Steam version works fine. I have no idea if this is possible if someone owns a different GoTY version than the one from the Anthology though (keys and stuff), but I guess it might work.
  13. It could be that the patches have replaced some files from other mods. The patches themselves are really neat as far as I experienced. When I installed them recently, I did this before I added all other mods, and noticed that for example Better Cities already replaces some files from the patches. No surprise there, but problems happened a year ago when I installed the patches after BC, then re-installed BC et alia after the patches, and ended up with a playable game, but all sorts of minor issues. That still doesn't explain why vanillia speech files would disappear / not work any more, and why only specific ones instead of all of one language. I remember that I had a mix of working / not working English speech files when I played through the Better Cities quests (EV, because it's only complete there) installed with a German version of Oblivion. Most of it was okay, but some NPCs were mute even if it was obvious by the subtitles that they were supposed to have English speech. All German voices were muted definitely at that point. 'Sides, if it's only the guy in Aleswell ... invisible and mute, he must be happy about the existence of subtitles ... maybe it's still worth the try to play OotD. Since someone posted a bunch of marvellous screenshots last year, I drool on my keyboard when I think about eventually playing this campaign. :)
  14. Usually I'm not good at figuring out this kind of problem, but tghen, I had a similar problem when I still used my German version of Oblivion: English mods, even if voiced, usually had no voice. When I switched that because I wanted voice for Better Cities EV, all other NPCs fell silent. Do you have any mod installed in another language, no matter if it affects Aleswell directly?
  15. Thanks for the quick answer. :) Yep, so far everything is fine. I found the other thread from some time ago about OBSE not working with Steam, and decided to give it a try with The Blade of The Haunted, tried to install it via WryeBash, and weirdness ensues: the mod is installed properly, but never appears among the .esp files, neither in WryeBash nor in the game directory. I think I'll just try to keep a copy of the DLC that's missing on the disc, and then bye, Steam version.
  16. So, after months of real work I wanted to do some relaxing level design and shape mud in Blackwood Forest into fancy arrangements. But, oh noes, the Construction Set Extender won't start at all with the Steam version of the game. System: Win 7 Steam is already in an own directory. OBSE is installed. I've been able to run the retail GotY version without any problems on my system, but now installed the Anthology version via Steam. Bad decision? (I'd actually like to keep it in order to play through the mini DLCs like Mehrunes' Razor, which I don't know yet.)* If it's just not possible to use the CSE with the Steam version, so be it. But if there's a chance, I'd be happy if someone could give me a hint. Cheers, Ynguatep * Is it possible to copy the DLCs from the steam directory and use them with the retail Anthology version when the Steam version is uninstalled?
  17. Try Nehrim. It is way less extreme in fantasy items and features a dirty, less magicky world. Not only historical though I'd not even call it "low fantasy", but to me it feels more like that than the original Elder Scrolls setting. Don't expect perfect quests (some feel a bit amateur-ish, others professional). You'll still a great game with most awesome level design. It's also quite bug-free. :)
  18. For the one or two persons who might be interested: I did not give up on this, I'm simply swamped with work (the money-making kind of) and will be so for at least one, maybe two more months. Then it is hopefully back to Roadside Rubbish, and something more that happened while working on it. :)
  19. You got me curious :) All that I was able to find was a quite old posting somewhere on this board where Simyaz mentioned that he modified a song as not to run into copyright issues. That might be the reason why I wasn't able to identify it. The other and at least as likely reason sits in front of my screen. Sorry, I fear that's not helpful at all. :(
  20. It's a sound file, as in many mods. You can check that ingame if you open the menu and hear the default music instead, and the music starts over when you resume the game. In this case it'll be in \Data\sound\fx RTT_05.wav :)
  21. Try either Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM, easier, but with limits) or WryeBash (not as easy, but really, really good). If you want to use a large number of mods, better stick to WryeBash. Always read readmes and best backup your current files before installing a new replacer. I can't tell what you can possibly mess up with body replacers though 'cause I didn't try one yet. I gave a try to OCO 2.0 (faces overhaul) but uninstalled it due to language reasons. So far it seems that there's no problem.
  22. Thanks! :) I'll try that. Guess that Peletine will add Senchal to the game.
  23. Oh, one more note (just read oe of the texts above) ... SoC Oranstad already adds a path from Gottlesfont towards Gold Road. Of course it wouldn't be there without the village mod, but kind of weird if there were two connections to this remote location. Perhaps an additional version without the road?
  24. Sounds great, say my thief characters. Ony one detail: I wouldn't let non-guard or fighter NPCs attack the character. They'll simply kill themselves against a mid- or highlevel character or even one who reflects damage, and it's not all believeable too ... why should an old beggar risk his life for example? Most people wouldn't risk a fight. The AI is not up to a behavior of peasants that makes sense and keeps them alive, as they always fight to death even if one of them already got himself killed. There might be even a solution for that, but I think it's fine to let only people fight who stand a chance, and let the crowd yell at the player from the background. Perhaps you can handle this via factions: Legion, Guard, Mages Guild and Fighter's Guild will attack, while Thieves and peasants always keep out of it. Thieves (not beggars) might still attack a non-thief-guild murderer, etc. I also like the idea that guards always keep a percentage of the gold which the character had on his person. This makes the Bank of Cyrodiil really useful and also adds to the consequences of comitting crime. More so, having the character killed when he murders someone is a real must have, 'cause jail sounds a bit too modern to me ... Besides, the lovely gallows in several Bravil Overhauls need the occasional volonteer.
