Random Loss of Controls

During my game I'll randomly lose input to oblivion; both keyboard and mouse, it's as though they aren't plugged in (although I can alt-tab and whatnot). I have a few mods installed, nothing much, so if no one has heard of this, I'll just try disabling 1 mod at a time until I find what it is (first without mods at all to see if its something else).

Thanks.

Th K-lite codec pack will have absolutely NO impact on keyboard and mouse input, and you should never install codec packs unless you actually need the codecs that they contain. If you are losing input, you should first disconnect any game controllers, to determine if they are interfering in some way, and/or check your batteries -- that's the first step.

Errmm, actually this problem and the K-lite solution were described sometime ago (Bethesda forums Unofficial Tech Faq, article 4.21)

I will repeat: a codec has NO bearing on keyboard and mouse -- it is a "compression/decompression" algorithm for encoding and playing back media files. It has nothing, zip, to do with mouse or keyboard. All of the required (Bink) codecs are installed with the game. So why you quote an unofficial FAQ and then post a link for a MajorGeeks download, I do not know.

I didn't say I understood it (frankly it makes no sense to me either) however:

4.21 My mouse/keyboard becomes nonfunctional after 5-10 minutes.

This has become a very frequent problem as of late, likely having to do with codec issues. Here is an ongoing thread with suggestions and possible solutions such as setting the latest Media Player 10 as the default for mp3 files to using a utility such as the K-Lite Codec Pack.

Read posts #14 and #23 in particular or just read the whole thread. And here is the link for the K-Lite Codec pack:

It's likely that Nightmare's Codec Reset Utility does the same thing as K-Lite's

Yes, I did read that, and it's nothing but speculation -- not an ounce of fact or evidence. Again, codec 'packs' are to be avoided. You should ONLY install codecs that are relevent to your system. ie. those that you need.

let me assure you, it worked.. i was also familiar with k-lite to begin with-- its quite standard in terms of codec packs.

i know you're trying to help, but assuming i hadn't had a general understanding to begin with, you'd be leading me away from the 'only' solution to my issue.. you should read in to things yourself before being so insistent.
