Keyboard and mouse input suddenly stop responding

So yesterday I got a sudden itch to play Oblivion again and to continue the game I had over 90 hours in.

The problem is, after a few minutes of play, without fail, it will just stop taking any input. Nothing actually freezes, but I can't even move the camera or the cursor if I'm in a menu. And if I was pressing a key, it'll act as if I was pressing it continuously. I can switch windows and everything will be fine and dandy outside the game, but the only way to get it to work again on the game is to close it (I can just rightclick>close it, it won't even say the game isn't responding and will close immediately) and start it up again.

I prefferably don't want to have to reinstall the game as I have a couple of mods and most of the DLCs installed and it'd take forever. Can anybody help me fix this issue?

Try removing any joypads, joystick or controllers. These can sometimes cause keyboard conflicts.

Ok, second step: clean your mouse and keyboard thoroughly, and check/replace batteries.

This has nothing to do with either the keyboard or mouse themselves; they function perfectly outside of Oblivion.

You should definitely take a look at THIS thread that was posted recently and see if the solution applies to you as well.

That seems like it'd answer my problem, unfortunately the link to the mentioned thread is broken. :/ I'll try installing the K-Lite codec pack as seems to be suggested (though I already have most of the codecs I need from my own selection in the CCCP, but eh... It's worth trying).

The link worked for me.

Another possibility is some other program running in the background stealing focus from the game for a moment and the game locking because of it.

Most likely candidates (except for the obvious virus or spyware) are any communication type programs such as A VOIP, Skype, IM or even an email prog that constantly checks for messages.

Any program that constantly checks for some condition - such as a timer or checking for updates.

I had one that the company shut the update site down when they were bought out by a bigger company. And when the update program decided to check for updates, it naturally was not able to connect. It was set to check every day at a certain time. After that time, It tried every 10 minutes until the computer was shut down. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/charonn0/ohgeez-1.gifIf you shut down then powered back up, It didn't try again until the next day. If the computer was off at the time it was supposed to check, it worked all day. - took me nearly 2 weeks to figure that one out.

I tried running it alone on a fresh start up and it still did the same thing. It might be a program that runs on start up, so I'll try that after testing it out with the k-lite method.

EDIT: Seems like it works now, after about an hour of play. I guess this has been fixed. Thanks Smooth613!
