Ansular
I used the console to bring Shadowmere to me since I couldn't find him at the designated area. I put him in a stable in Skingrad to keep him from wandering. Not long after that as I was fast traveling to another spot, there was Shadomere. I put him back in the Skingrad stable, made sure the gates were closed, which seemed to be opened by various NPC's, including wandering guards. On my next fast travel he appeared again where I was. Basically, whenever I fast travel, Shadowmere shows up. I thought at first he might not do it if I wasn't in sight when I did fast travel, but that didn't work either. So, the question is, how do I keep this critter from following me? Perhaps this is normal for shadowmere instead of other bought horses, not that I paid for Shadowmere, but I own him and get the nice ownership colored horseshoe for him. If I get rid of him (kill him), will other bought horses do the same annoying thing?
Tiberiu911
Accually, thats what all the horses do, until they get lost. They will fast travel with you, you can kill them, might also get a bounty for it, but Shadowmere is essential. Just pretend Shadowmere is not there or something. Thats pretty much what I do with all my horses. Or kill it and fast travel while it's unconcious. Not sure of the results though. P.S. Shadowmere will await you where you first found her. Rhydderch Hael
Or get on another horse (it doesn't neccessarily need to be one of your own). Shadowmere will then return to the stable since the other horse is now your current ride. Of course, the other horse is mortal. And if wasn't yours, it too will begin to wander home. Ansular
Thanks for the confirming replies. I was assuming this would be the situation, unfortunately applying to all owned horses in Oblivion. I was just hoping someone knew a cheat, trick, etc. around this problem, but I haven't read of one myself in all the various game sites. I don't need to own another beast with the same problem, so I guess I'll just ignore Shadowmere. While I like Oblivion this is an obviously weak part of the game in that with a game filled with menu choices for about everything, the designers decided not to give players any control over owned horses with commands like follow, stay, fight, don't fight. graze, return to the wild, join the circus, look out for the glue truck, etc. : ) There is that strange mod for riding sheep though. Hmmm! Thanks again for the comments.
