The Dreamer (Dreaming and Daydreaming)

This is my first post on the forums, after using Nexus for years :)

Did you play Morrowind. Offcourse you have :) Did you became a Vampire? Probably you did. Do you remember those earie messages about dreams you got during your transformation into a vampire? Those were awsome!

Additionally, did you try the Frostfall mod? I loved the way you activate the mod by looking into the stars for a few seconds, to get a message written in first person by the Dragonborn, thinking over his adventures.

I was thinking about a similar mechanic but much more expanded, something that would give debth to your Mute, expressionless Dragonborn character. (I know, there mods for that).

The mod would have those two mechanics. Messages about dreams after waking up and daydreaming messages after looking up into the night sky for a few seconds.

Dreaming: Obviously you would not get colorfull dreams everynight, there would be a, say, 15% chance to actually get a dream. Those dreams could be affected by factors like quest completion, disease, bounty etc.

For example,
-the Dragonborn could have dreams hinting about his destiny before even realizing he is the dragonborn, would dream about Sovngarde, being saved by concieled blades in the shadows, or darker ones, having his soul absorbed by another dragonborn, or destroing a settlement in the form of a dragon.
-Dragonborn could be visited by Deadric Princes in his dreams, depending on deadric quest he completed.
-Dark dreams about ones actions burning their family, Sithis and the Nightmother, blood and murder during the DB questline.
-A Dragonborn with a high bounty on his head could dream about being caught, about prisons or beheadings.
-Dreams about Spiders crawling into your mouth, or Rats eating your ears when suffering common diseases.
-Werewolfs dreams would always be scary and stressing, chasing a prey that gradually becomes bigger, or becoming pray yourself. There would be a reason for the "beatsform keeps you restless" message.
-Vampires dreams would be gradually darker and scarier the hungrier one is.

These are just a few out of my head but the possibilites are endless. I've written a lot of them already while on the metro.

Daydreaming: Using the Frostfall formula, after looking at the clear nightsky, stars, nebulas and auroras, a message would appear where the Dragonborn is pondering on his actions and adventures.
-Having second thoughts about a choice in a quest.
-Wondering weather he can actually handle the responsibility as Archmage, Harbinger of the Companions, Listener etc.
-Thinking about how he as the Dragonborn, sacrificed an afterlife in Sovngarde for the service of Nocturnal.
-Being proud of the skills he improved in and deciding to improve the skills he is weak in.
-Thinking about a book he read.
-Thinking about NPC's he has'ent seen in a while. Maybe it is time to visit Sky Haven Temple and have a chat with Esbern and Delphine? I havent been back in the sanctuary for ages, the nightmother probably has a task for me. I wonder how Parthurnax is doing, maybe I should walk the 7000 steps again?

etc. Again, there is just so many possibilities.

Additionally, although I realize this would be a much more complicated issue to program, there could be a Personal Journal that would get updated with the daydreaming messages, and a dreamjournal for the dreams.

I really hope I can interest you in this Idea and I would love to read some suggestions or even dreams you compose.
cheerio,

That sounds a really good idea. Probably very doable, the dream sequences need to be made though, that will take a bit of work, but maybe at first just scenes you visit (like Sovngarde, or some other beautiful place)

But the basic premise is great.

If you think that writing the dreams is the hardest part then I guess this is definetely doable. I got a lot of them written already and getting 5 sentences together is barely difficult work. I spend about 4 hours everyday just commuting, which gives me the perfect setting to wright away. What to me seems extremely undoable is programing. The most complicated "modding" I ever did was switching a texture, and even that took me hours to figure out xD Script writing is black magic for me.

If someone was willing to program the message appearing and certain triggers deciding what message would appear than I would be very willing to provide a buttload of dreams. Also, I am sure that a lot of people would be willing to contribute if there was an actual project going. This could potentially be a community project.

I love this idea, but I have a suggestion, especially for those that have dragonborn, for some of that lovecraftian goodness: Nightmares. While normal dreams would be like 15% chance, you would have a 5% of having a nightmare (Chance increasing or diminishing depending on where you sleep, lower at your house, higher in ruins). Depending on how you deal with said nightmare you could wake up with the well rested/lover's comfort buff, or a nightmare debuf.

damn, nicer than this only if someone could make a playable nightmare level were if you die, you wake up normaly and if you finish it you could wake up with a buff for the rest of the day/week, it whould be harder to do thought.

I like the way you think. How about making the Nightmare an actual boss-type creature? if you defeat it you get a buff until the next time you sleep, if you die, you get a debuf until the next time you sleep.

the level of dificulty of the boss shouldnt be too high otherwise the player could end up aways having a debuff in low levels, i prefere the idea of gaining nothing instead of losing in case of failure.
