thestaub
Okay, so after seeing the new Skyrim Trailer for like 2 weeks each day I wanted to play TES.Anything.So a quick installation of Oblivion was made since my old install crashed every 5 seconds and I startet playing. After 2 hours I realized that not only the water looks dull, but there are no shadows and several other issues. I checked video setting and found a quick solution to my problems.Well, thats what I thought. Changing was no problem and changes took effect, but after restarting everything was back so default. Dull water, no shadows and so forth. Turns out, i'm stuck with my setting. I checked the Oblivion.ini for read-only (it's not) and tried serveral methods of starting the game. I think the Oblivion.ini is always written on exiting the game (correct me if i'm wrong)but I always get a crash when exiting the game. Running Oblivion onWindows 7 HomeQ9550 IntelGTX 2754Gb Ram I think this problem has been asked several times allready and I tried using the search option here in the forum, but I failed at finding help. ^.^
lowenp
This is relevant to my interests. My computer can handle Oblivion at fairly high settings, yet it is defaulted to low every time I play.
_frost_
2 solutions: 1. Change your video-settings, then open the console and type: saveiniA manual ini-edit is also possible, but perhaps not everyones taste  . 2. or use a mod like this: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410Note: You need OBSE for this. _frost_ Edited January 14, 2011 by _frost_

The one in the oblivion directory is the default one that is copied for new players. The one that is in your My Documents near where the save games are kept is the one that you want to change to affect your game now.
thestaub
Thank you frost, you saved me :) I used both solutions. saveini finaly kept my settings and Fastexit is just great. No waiting or using taskmanager anymore to quit oblivion ^.^And since I use OBSE even on a for my taste quite vanilla installation (only like 12 mods working) adding something like fast exit was easy :P Yes, I checked the ini in the MyDocuments folder :) Thanks again, Staub
