Retexture Mods and Compatibility Help Needed

Hello everyone. I'm quite new to the modding scene, so please go easy on me but I'm having a bit of trouble with finding retexture mods that don't conflict in some way with FWE, EVE, WMK, and MMM. It seems like a lot of weapon and creature retextures for example have some sort of compatibility issue with those mods. I want to use a lot of really nice retextures that I've found but not if they will overwrite the new additional content from FWE, EVE, WMK, and MMM. Is there any surefire way of determining what retexture mods would work best with them without any possible problems? Thanks for any and all help!

Ah, okay. Well that makes sense. Here are just a few examples that I'm pretty sure have some sort of conflict issue with the mods I'm currently using. Also, thanks a lot for your help!

What wetblanket said, except retextures for the same items will of course "conflict" as you only can use one retexture at a time. So, for example, if EVE retextures energy weapons, another mod that also retextures them will overwrite the EVE retextures. In short, handling different retexture sets that overlaps becomes a question of install order, the latest installed retexture will show up in game.

Retextures that also have esp's complicates stuff if they don't come with patches for overhauls such as FWE or EVE. For instance, several weapons in millenia's pack are set up in the included esp's, so they will conflict with FWE/EVE. It's easiest to just skip retextures that also have esp's unless you want to use FO3Edit to patch them so you get the retextures but still keep the settings/effects from FWE/EVE.

In short, I'd recommend to only use retextures that are esp-less and then install them in an order so you install the one(s) you want to win out last. In this case, for weapons, you could install the new excellent Weapon Enhancement Pack and the Fallout 3 Hirezd weapons that aren't covered in WEP. The same for creatures - both Hirezd and Vandr have retextures for super mutants, for example. You basically have to choose the one you like the most.

If you install them with a mod manager such as NMM, it's actually fun to try out different retextures as you easily can revert back to the one you were using earlier just by uninstalling the one you installed last.

Thanks Arkngt, that made things a bit more clear actually. :D Yeah, I'm using some textures that require esp's in order for them to work so I might just abandon them all together if it just ends up making things more complicated and prone to issues arising. But if I wanted to use Hirezd and Vandr creatures for example, then that would ultimately lead to overwriting those same creatures included in MMM depending on which is installed last right? And if that's the case then I should just avoid those kind of mods if I don't want to lose the unique creature textures that are in MMM? Can the same be said for the likes of EVE, FWE, and WMK?

You won't overwrite MMM's variations, but rather the vanilla variant of each creature, so no worries losing the MMM variants. As for EVE, I'd let Weapon Enhancement Pack overwrite those ones.

Should I just install this weapon texture mod, since I don't believe it has any compatibility issues that I'm aware of unlike Millenia's with WMK or FWE?

It seems like any other weapon retexture mod I find won't work right with WMK or FWE which really sucks lol.

I wouldn't recommend that personally. It basically adds sharpen filters to the vanilla textures IIRC. I'd recommend Weapon Enhancement Pack , which has excellent retextures. It has add-ons for unique weapons, which have esp's, but I've made FWE patches for those ones.

Wait, so if I understand this correctly then there are only compatibility issues if weapon/armor/creature re-texture mods include meshes or esp files? Therefore, it would be best to use re-texture mods that don't include any of those in order to avoid incompatibility with FWE, EVE, WMK, and MMM?
