It's going to take a while before we see Oblivion mods of the same quality of Morrowind. There are a whole new batch of artificial obstacles in Oblivion that need to be circumvented and technical issues that need to be dealt with. Morrowind mods, particularly the later ones, are quite sophisticated. Development times for Oblivion are going to be shorter, sure. After all many modders cut their teeth on Morrowind first. But it'll still be a few years before we see everything the Oblivion engine is capable of doing.

The best quality mods of Morrowind took a long time to develop. Oblivion hasn't been given enough time to answer this question in my opinion.

So far Morrowind wins of course, because they have more (advanced) quality mods.

I think that there are way too many cheat mods for Oblivion. I don't know exactly how this was with MW, but I don't think it has that many.

A big problem is the voice acting. With Morrowind you could easier create dialogue, because it didn't have to be voiced and it didn't have that ridiculous short text limit.

I didn't voted to this because I cant. I have played Morrowind but on the Xbox, so I cant compare Mod quality. Puvoholo Puvuholo Povuholo has a point.

I think this very much depends on what type of mods we're talking about.

Morrowind has been around for a few years, so the community has had oodles of time to construct some very involved gameplay mods, quest mods, racial mods... and on and on.

If we were discussing only those mods that have to do with characters, models, textures and meshes... then Oblivion wins by default, simply because Morrowind's aging graphics look like crap compared to Oblivion's ultra-modern CGI look.

I'd also like to further editorialize by saying that 7 out of 10 Morrowind mods that I've ever tried (and I've tried a bunch) were kind of crappy and many were simply inappropriate for that gameworld. I've never liked mods that attempt to convert the game into something freakishly different from what it was originally intended to be (for example, turning Morrowind into Star Wars, or whatever). If I wanted it to be -that- different, I'd just go buy a different game altogether, instead of attempting some sort of massive conversion.

Anyway, we all look for a different experience in RPG's. I guess I try to look for mods that I can rationalize as being stuff that at least -might- fit into the the original gameworld. Half-naked slave girls wearing lingerie (heh) are okay... I mean, who knows..? Maybe they have naked slave girls and lingerie in Tamriel. Why not..? But Imperial Storm Troopers and Darth Vader armor..? Nah... speaking as a roleplayer, that's just way too much of a departure for my tastes.

Looking at it from that perspective, I think Oblivion mods have been going strong and I'm looking forward to some really incredible stuff for this game in the future. :)

There are going to be mods like that for oblivion too. It just takes time... Edit: There is one already!

True, but I don't think Oblivion will be any different... But just as with Morrowind, there will be very good ones too.

I hope so. I think this game has awsome potential. If you poke around a bit, you can see evidence of the fact that the rest of the gaming companies out there are scrambling to catch up to this game... technology-wise, that is.

I have never, in my nearly 20 years of computing, seen a game that has such ultra-realistic character models. Not Doom 3, not F.E.A.R., not Half-Life 2, not nothin' at all. Those are all great-looking games, but Oblivion has definitely set the current high mark. If the rest of the developers out there can work towards improving on that standard... and still construct some really immersive RPG content at the same time... then I think we're in for some awsome developments soon.

And of course... the modders will be having a field day.
