Big Problem, and I mean Big(maybe)

Here's the issue. I have a lot of mods on my game oblivion, and never really had any issues regarding my game starting up. but i recently found a mod called Oblivion ram booster. So i thought wow that sounds great. Well i download it and follow the directions to the T. It supposedly gives you more ram by tweaking the oblivion exe. I did it and noticed my game would not start up. I have plenty of ram to go around on my laptop. I thought it might be a problem with other mods. Nope.I reverted my oblivion exe to its regular state, and i tried to reinstall oblivion. Here's where my real problem is. When its almost finished downloading the installer stops and says:

component:Oblivion

File E:\data6.cab

Error:Data error(cyclic redundancy check)

can someone please help me resolve this issue so i can play. This is the only game I actually play. well and U.O. ha ha. Well i just looked it up and it says that it might be a problem reading the disc.Is that the answer? Maybe the Larger question is why did i have to reinstall in the first place?

This usually means a damaged disk or disk drive. Try cleaning both.

Make sure the drive will read other CD's properly.

If cleaning both doesn't help and the drive successfully reads other DVD's, you can try taking the disk to video store and see if they can repair it.

Good luck.

Well i just cleaned the disc and oblivion downloaded correctly without errors. But when i reinstalled oblivion The game is still crashing. Is there something i can do with obmm. I have tried the conflict report but there's like 100 mods that are red like always and my game has always worked fine. It seems like after i installed that ram booster it messes up my game. I reset the oblivion exe. File so it doesn't use over 1 gig of ram. Should i just use obmm and disable all the files and start from scratch or is there an easier way of resolving this. There must be one mod that is ruining it for all the other good mods. Haha. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanxxxx

Jamus, you will need to do several things. First, back up your entire Oblivion game folder on an external hard drive along with your saves. Second, uninstall oblivion (as you've done before) THEN use a registry repair/checker program that includes a file shredder. You need to make sure that all traces of Oblivion are gone from the system including the registry. Restart the computer. THEN, either do one of two things. Reinstall ORIGINAL components from your disk and THEN copy your backup into the folder making sure NOT to overwrite your newly installed files. OR you can simply copy the folder back onto your laptop and (if you're running WIN 7) it should generate a registry entry by itself NOT requiring you to do a total new install. The Gamby Oblivion game engine was designed to use only one (1) system registry entry which should allow for moving from drive location to location. MAKE SURE when you do play the game (if in WIN7) that all .exe files are set to play in WIN XP Service pack 2 compaitbility mode. Restart the computer through each step to insure new registry updating BEFORE you attempt to actually play. Edited by jwoltz
