GeohoundJason
I had decided to play Oblivion again because I had the urge to, however, upon startup, no music would play. Going in game, it's the same problem. The videos still play, they aren't affected. All the music is in the correct folders. Sounds work just fine as well. Even a clean install(not even installing the expansions) yields the same results. The strange thing is, only Oblivion has this problem. Morrowind and Fallout 3 work just fine. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?
xchargerfanx
Go to your Oblivion.ini found in My Documents\My Games\Oblivion. Make sure bMusicEnabled is set to 1.
GeohoundJason
It's already set to 1(on), but it's still the same problem.
Megatarius
Are your music files in the Explore, Dungeon, Battle, Public, and Special folders, within the Music folder? I know, but I had to ask it just to make sure. Are your music files named atmosphere, dungeon, battle, and town? Does the startup music play? Is it named tes4title? They have to be named specifically, or the game won't play them. Are your music files all mp3's? The game won't play anything else.
Qwaxalot
Try setting windows media player as your default mp3 player. Also, make sure your speakers are configured correctly to your setup.
GeohoundJason
The music has been unchanged(since a fresh install), and all mp3 files are named correctly and in their correct places. I have also attempted setting Windows Media Player as the default mp3 player. Unfortunately, nothing has changed.
Megatarius
Did you change the sound value in the .ini file, mentioned above by xchargerfanx, in the correct copy of the file? You need to change it in the My Games folder. Ignore the one in your Data folder. I'm guessing you already knew that, but I thought I'd ask to be sure. GeohoundJason
It is for certain set to 1, if people need, I can post the whole Oblivion.ini. Unfortunately, it's still an unsolved problem.
GeohoundJason
Sorry for a double post, but I believe this is a critical issue. To possibly help with diagnosis and resolution, here is my Oblivion.ini file, well, more precisely, the Audio section: [Audio]bDSoundHWAcceleration=1fMinSoundVel=10.0000fMetalLargeMassMin=25.0000fMetalMediumMassMin=8.0000fStoneLargeMassMin=30.0000fStoneMediumMassMin=5.0000fWoodLargeMassMin=15.0000fWoodMediumMassMin=7.0000fDialogAttenuationMax=35.0000fDialogAttenuationMin=7.7500bUseSoundDebugInfo=1fUnderwaterFrequencyDelta=0.0000bUseSoftwareAudio3D=0fDefaultEffectsVolume=0.8000fDefaultMusicVolume=1.0000fDefaultFootVolume=0.8000fDefaultVoiceVolume=0.8000fDefaultMasterVolume=1.0000bMusicEnabled=1bSoundEnabled=1fLargeWeaponWeightMin=25.0000fMediumWeaponWeightMin=8.0000fSkinLargeMassMin=30.0000fSkinMediumMassMin=5.0000fChainLargeMassMin=30.0000fChainMediumMassMin=5.0000fDBVoiceAttenuationIn2D=0.0000iCollisionSoundTimeDelta=50fGlassLargeMassMin=25.0000fGlassMediumMassMin=8.0000fClothLargeMassMin=25.0000fClothMediumMassMin=8.0000fEarthLargeMassMin=30.0000fEarthMediumMassMin=5.0000bUseSpeedForWeaponSwish=1fLargeWeaponSpeedMax=0.9500fMediumWeaponSpeedMax=1.1000fPlayerFootVolume=0.9000fDSoundRolloffFactor=4.0000fMaxFootstepDistance=1100.0000fHeadroomdB=2.0000iMaxImpactSoundCount=32fMainMenuMusicVolume=0.6000
Hickory
You haven't mentioned it yet, but have you deleted your oblivion.ini and then ran the game from the launcher, so that your hardware is re-detected? And does the music play in the launcher?
