Alehnblivion
Dear guys, after installing Oblivion with some mods, I started noticing that sometimes the game crashes and returns to the desktop. The error message is usually (not ever):"The instruction 0x00762e7b has referred to the memory 0x00000110. The memory couldn't be read." Please, help me! I don't know what to do! Do you think that adding modes creates this kind of problems? I am going to post you a Word file containing my Load order, so that you can see if there are errors in it. P.S.: I have installed only Shivering Isles patch 120416 (not Oblivion patch 120416). Is it correct? Thank you very much! Hickory
Is there anybody going to give a look at my load order? Not if you post it as a document attachment -- posting an attachment is never a good idea for many reasons. Load orders are only really useful if taken from Wrye Bash, that way inactive/disabled mods etc. are clearly shown.
Alehnblivion
So, what should I do?
Hickory
If you have Wrye Bash post your load list taken from there -- right click on the 'File' tab and select 'List Mods'. If you don't have Wrye Bash (and you should) see this article.

Hickory
You didn't post one before, you posted an attachment. People are, rightly, wary about opening any kind of attachment from sources they don't know, and as I said, a list from Wrye Bash gives information that other methods do not, such as inactive or merged plugins. Looking at your list I cannot see anything untoward.that would cause the error you mentioned. What I would suggest, if you have Windows 7 or Vista is to completely uninstall Oblivion and reinstall outside of the protected 'Program Files' folder structure, because Windows prevents alteration to files there by default, and your mods get ghosted to another virtual folder. Secondly, make sure that you add Oblivion.exe to your DEP exclusion list:Control Panel / System / Advanced System Settings / Advanced tab / Performance Settings / Data Execution Prevention

So, in your opinion, this kind of mod placement can't cause the problem. However: do you think it is a balanced, well done load order? Or is there something you would adjust?Oblivion is intalled in F:\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion (Windows XP SP3).The other problem is that the game is a bit slow (in particular when riding a horse) even with my quad core! Hickory
I wouldn't say "can't" cause the problem, but your load list looks fine to me. There is a lot of reasons for Oblivion to run slowly, and your crashes may or may not be a side symptom of that. Once you have added Oblivion.exe to your DEP exclusion list, you could check your computer case for dust buildup, as overheating components are one of the biggest 'unknown' crash causes. Open up your case and blow out the inside with a can of compressed air. Make sure that the vents have plenty of room to do their job -- don't place them against solid objects. You should also check your RAM (Memtest is free). Once you have your game running stable, then is the time to worry about tweaking for speed. Remember that Oblivion is an old game that was not designed for multiple cores, and does not make use of them.

Thank you for your kind help. The strange thing is that the game doesn't become faster when I reduce graphycal settings. When I am on my horse, Oblivion is not very fluid, to the point that running at the same speed while not riding, doesn't create the same problem. P.S.: so, in your opinion, a good Pentium 4 and my quad core cold be the same, as for Oblivion, couldn't they? Yes, I had my PC placed against a solid object :) Edited January 20, 2011 by Alehnblivion
