KalteStern
I am a complete newbie to modding, so downloaded the TES and have been trying to work my way through the various Wiki tutorials for beginners. Cells and objects have been reasonably straightforward so far, and creating new NPCs, But creating new NPCs has hit a brick wall at a certain point, in that any attempt to create a new topic within Topics, or any kind of new dialogue, immediately causes the programme to freeze and then crash.I have tried various workarounds after browsing this forum for a while, including the 'Edit Greeting bug fix' workaround, and downloading the latest CS patch from this site, but no dice - any attempt to Add Topic to a NPC's dialogue causes a crash. I suspect I am not going to get far in Modding , even taking baby steps, unless I can edit Character dialogue I am in Windows 7, running Oblivion version 1.2.0.416, with Shivering Isles installed. The Bethesda Directory is in Program files (x86) though .... the actual game is fairly stable, except when encountering MOD gameplay bugs, as we all do
Hickory
If you have RealTek audio, try plugging a microphone into your mic jack.
Deleted2493460User
The microphone thing does NOT work, ever. Neither does downloading the Oblivion Construction Set Extender. I'm having the same problem as KalteStern.

Well, as I have RealTek audio, I tried it; plugged a jack into red Mic socket - and it didn't work - CS still crashed, as exactly same point
Megatarius
Does it happen if you run the CS in XP compatibility mode? Right click it, select properties, and it's under the compatibility tab.

Windows 7 noticed the crashes (what's the betting that 'Windows is checking for possible solutions' brings me back here..? ) but otherwise no improvement
Qwaxalot
I know that this is a pain, but why don't you try to uninstall Oblivion and the CS and reinstall to someplace other than program files? This, at least, gets rid of UAC as a possible complication.

Looks like I am going to have to ..or abandon modding.Having said all that, a new PC and full Oblivion transfer, saved games, mods and all, only took about 20 minutes last time.So much to do, so little time.....
