Exclamation mark?

just started playing and i find it very very hard to find quest givers.. i ask for rumors from every npc i see and half of them say the same thing usualy, only with a different voice..

my point, is it possible to have, or maybe it exists and i didn't know about it, a mod that puts a mark, like an Exclamation mark or something above npcs quest givers' heads?

just like any mmo i guess...

It could be done, at least for the vanilla quests, but it would be a pretty big job and could lead to mod conflicts.

Basically, each NPC that gives a quest needs to be edited and scripted to show the exclamation mark at the appropriate time. Each NPC can only be edited by one mod, so if a lot of them are edited, a lot of conflicts may occur. It will also not show the exclamation mark for quests added by other mods.

In Oblivion, most quests come "by accident" anyway. For all my characters, I've received quests faster than I can complete them. If it's necessary to talk to an NPC, a quest marker will show up on your map, so the helpfulness of such a mod may be limited.

I can think of a pretty easy way to do it. You make a 3d exclamation mark in Blender and rig it 100% to the head and position it above the NPC. You set it up as an amulet and add it to the NPC's inventory. They usually wear whatever amulet they have, or they can be forced to equip it by script. I suppose you could script it to be unequipped when the NPC had no more quests to give. The texture could have an alpha channel and you could make it just barely visible so it wouldn't be too annoying,

You can get a list of all vanilla quest givers from the wiki, so no problem there.

I wouldn't do this mod myself though. Two reasons, It's not the type of mod I would enjoy making, and more importantly, it would be inevitable that people would say I screwed up their game. You would be mucking about with every quest giver, therefore every quest. I wouldn't want to go there.

But if anyone wanted to make it, yeah it can be done.8)
