from what i understand, you aren't using FOMM, right??

well, first thing first, you should really get FOMM and use it (it will save you a huge amount of hassle later on, especially with many mods)

also, make sure that you have installed mods properly

haven't tried to load mods without FOMM, so i can't remember if it had any problems, but you shouldn't do it if you don't have to (and in this case, you don't )

OP experienced in installing mods from other games

mods installed

mods vanishing at loader screen

1 - does OP use Fallout Mod Manager -- Hint

2 - are these mods really vanishing --- Double Hint

Hint -> It now works for FO3 and New Vegas -- use it

Double Hint -> definition of a UAC issue

best solution is to ask the moderator bben46 http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/user/319600-bben46/

for his link to the thread in the steam forums

on how to move steam files without re-installing steam

Hi

Thanks for yr reply

I usually use a download manager through firefox, extract to data folder, start game and it is there (after ticking), but nothing is appearing on the start up list in Data files. Usually very straight forward, but i would be will to try out FOMM. Do you have a link to getting this download manager for me pls and how to use it

Thanks for your advice

Hi

I downloaded FOMM

Q. Do I download and extract the new mods to the FOMM data folder or to the game data folder?

I tried both, but nothing showing in the list

Thanks

Simon

you are supposed to put the files into the game's data folder

make sure that the plugins are inside the data folder, not in a subfolder

Hi

It seems to be basically working ok. Some downloaded files will show up in the data folder and go into list and others wont and sometimes others will crash the game, but you soon find out which ones not to use

Thanks for your help and advice. I appreciate the time and effort

If you have other useful advice about using the FOMM, then I would be grateful

Thanks again

Simon

well, whenever you are modding the game (by that i mean adding mods, not making them), it will make the game less stable

this is the price of using mods, but it's usually a price worth paying

however, these crashes and instability issues are random, and shouldn't be too much of a big deal

if, however, your crashes are constant, frequent or such, then it's not just the normal instability, but something else

in which case, you really need to find out what the problem is (it could be missing master files, the mod being installed wrong, or other problems)

now, i don't think i ever encountered a mod i just couldn't use, because it made my game crash all the time

so if this happens to you, you must have done something wrong (especially with popular mods that many people are using, the problems are usually due to the users, not the creator)

so make sure to follow the requirements and installation instructions carefully, and everything should be working just fine

also, make sure not to use conflicting mods without a patch (no good will really come out of it)
