Niben Bay problems!

I have searched everywhere and have found nothing on this topic at all. Since it is present in vanilla oblivion I have a hard time believing that I am the only one who is having this issue!

I dive into Niben Bay and swim towards the bottom to be greeted by a lod texture? which i can swim through and continue towards the bottom. Is there a reason for this to be this way? Is there a way to fix it? Is there a mod that fixes it?

Are you sure that its present in vanilla? This sounds more like a mod conflict than anything else. Do you have the latest oblivion patch? Do you have any mods that specifically alter the bravil/Nibean bay region? Even if just to put a chest in?

I'd suggest removing your mods 1 by 1 to see if its still there. The easiest way to do this would be to disable all of your mods, make a new game and check the area out. (Alternative Start is very usefull for this, or any replays of Oblivion)

If on a clean start you still have the problem, I'd reccomend reinstalling oblvion.

Good luck!

well I had my whole list up here for everyone to see, but in the process of trying to shrink my picture size to a "RIDICULOUS" size I accidentally closed my page and lost 10 min of typing.

Thanks a lot for the 250k file limit! I understand the need to keep files small, but come on!!! I couldnt find any software to make it that small with minimal effort so its not worth the bother. And that goes for everything in this world. If you cant make it work effortlessly, then dont make it!!! 250k hmmph! What is that? The size of a stamp?

ok, ok, now that I got that out of my system............

I still have the same problem with a fresh install and a new character.

Running SI and patches from this link: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/How_to_install_Oblivion_with_patches

Other then that running Phinix Immersive Dark UI

and OMODs: Cyrodiil Terrain Map,Shivering Isles Terrain Map, Phinix Immersive Dark UI compatibility fix 1.5

I can list my data files load order if anyone thinks it will be useful. But am not going to again right now due to aggravation mentioned above!

Ok..........It is definitely in Oblivion itself. I completely uninstalled Oblivion and anything even remotely affiliated with it(bash, mod manager,DLCs, obse, pythons, etc, etc). I cleaned my registry and made sure I was back to square 1. I installed Oblivion and started a new game with nothing in the data directory except oblivion.esm and it was there! You cant swim to the lowest point in Niben Bay without going through it!

Honestly, I don't understand the issue you're describing. I have a character who never surfaces ever and spends most of their time in Niben Bay, and I've never really noticed anything weird. There is sort of a layer where it looks like you're about to reach the bottom but then you go through and continue to descent, it just looks like a layer of silt or something to me.

It might be the layer you describe , Majikmonkee ...

I've had it once (an old install from about 2 years ago) in the area of Deepscorn Hollow :

Swimming underwater , reaching the ground , and swimming through that ground-texture to find out I could go deeper .

My first thought was also a sort of LOD texture kinda "floating" above the real sea ground ..... like a camouflage-net :ninja:

Never checked in Niben bay , though ...

Hmmm ... I dunno .

Like I said , I remember that from a 2-year-old install , and not sure about what mods I used back then.

I was thinking that LOD textures I replaced could be the cause .

But .... but ... but ... It just pops up in my mind that I also had some issues in various wilderness cells (on earth)...

Some of them had huge gasps at various spots ... I remember that someone posted me about BOSS , and after BOSS resorted my mod-load-order ... it fixed the wilderness-terrain gasps ,which seemed "normal" after that :)...

I dunno if the 2 issues (underwater "fake-ground" AND wilderness gasps) are related .

In any case , BOSS-ing your mod-order (if not done) can only do good .

About underwater , I'll go & check in Niben Bay (and re-check around Deepscorn hollow)... somewhere today , to see if I have that issue in my actual install .

Stay tuned

Yes, it may probably be fixed. There should not be any obvious LOD issues in vanilla Oblivion.

Make sure you have installed/reinstalled the Official Patches v1.2.0416 for Oblivion and Shivering Isles, and the corresponding Unofficial Patches as well (which fix a *lot* of bugs). Disable all mods and DLCs before reinstalling any patches.

I would recommend you to then install and run TES4LODGen, which is a is a DistantLOD Generator. You MUST have HDR enabled or you may get some flashing-to-black distant objects.

BOSS, Wrye Bash, RefScope and TES4Edit can also help with the sorting out mod conflicts. Make sure you have OBSE, OBGE, Pluggy as this might be required by some mods.

If you manage to resolve the LOD issue, enable the mods one by one, play the game, till you find the mod that supposedly introduces the LOD issue, and inform the mod author by PM, so he/she can respond whether your diagnosis is correct and provide any fixes if needed.

Ok , I checked and I DO have the issue in Niben Bay ... which tells me that the wilderness gasps(solved by BOSS-ing) and this underwater-thing are not related .

No idea what to do about it ...

Here are some screens I just made :
