Thinking of starting a New Character

Hai Guyz,

A long time ago, I played the City Elf, Dalish Elf, and Mage Origin Stories. My Favorite out of the three I've played was City Elf, as I enjoyed murdering rapists. However, that was more than a year ago, and my old hard drive crashed since then. I am making a new character for the sole purpose of DA2, as I have heard that my actions in DAO will have an effect in DA2.

Anyway, my question is this:

Are the Human or dwarf Origins as interesting as the City Elf origin, or am I better off simply replaying the City Elf Origin?

EACH Origin is its own story!

They are all very well done, and contribute to your understanding of later events in different ways because you then have an insider's perspective on what happened whereas before you were only hearing the "headline version".

One of the reasons I find the replay value of DA to be so high is that by combining a change in class with a change in origin, a significant portion of the game is suddenly "fresh" again.

Enjoy!

The satisfaction of the Human Noble origin comes in many smaller ways all through the story: revenge, recognition by many of your heritage, and so on. There's always something in the game that reminds you of your origin. Plus you get the chance to be King (or Queen)...if you do your romances right.

The other Origins (City Elf, Dalish Elf, Mage) have their own story-plot provided to bring you home: Brecilian Forest for the Dalish Elf, Circle Tower for the Mage, and Alienage for the City Elf.

I haven't played the Dwarven Origins - I just can't face playing a dwarf at all.

Oh wow! You're missing two of the best, imho. (But I guess my avi kinda' indicates my sympathies there! )

Actually, even though I've played it more than any of the others, I find the HN origin the least interesting. Maybe just because it's so well known it's a cliché. Everyone plays their assigned roles in the expected ways so nothing comes as a real surprise... Hmmmm, maybe it's time to do the EM Origin again!

Well I've played The Dwarven commoner. I found it rather interesting story-wise. I was happy to learn that Morrigan was into dwarves, mostly because I was hoping to romance Morrigan before playing the Witch Hunt DLC.

Thus far, all that leaves is the two Noble Origin stories. I had a female wizard, who I was playing before my comp crashed.

I myself prefer Elven rogues. Partialy because I using light armor and dual-wielding. Although I also enjoy the versatility of the mage.

I have played through all of the origin stories (Though not completed the game with all characters, I hasten to add!) and I think the least interesting overall is probably the Dwarf Commoner. The one with the least effect threaded through the rest of the story, though, is the Dalish Elf.

The rest are all really good and really provide a great set up for the main game, with a ton of threads (And options) running through the story that relate to your character origin alone.

For the best story experience overall, they are probably about as good as each other, with the sole exception of the Dalish Elf, which is the weakest.

I liked it, although not as much as the city elf. You got to make choices, and you ended up fighting in an arena. Still not as much as murdering a bunch of bride-stealing rapists though.

I don't remember the Dalish elf one too well, except that I didn't like it. All I remember is that I found some mirror or something, and the village elders were like,"Ok, GTFO of the village and kill some Darkspawn".

The Dalish Elf origin isn't bad in itself, as it involves a bit of fighting, a bit of exploring, and a bit of talking to friends & associates, the way the rest do. What, IMO, makes it the weakest is that once you are done with the origin story your character's background will play no part whatsoever in the rest of the game. Where the other origins really matter when you return to home, tower or general society (In the case of the Human Noble), the Dalish Elf is of a different tribe to those you meet later and he has no personal enemies to oppose or personal friends to rescue/interact with. He wanders through the game like an outsider. Which is kind of fitting, but makes the experience less immersive than the other origin stories - at least IMO :)

The stories I personally enjoyed best overall were the Human Noble, Dwarf Noble and City Elf. All three have a very real stake in many aspects of the game and how they play out.

I played the Human Noble as a female. It was about revenge and betrayal, much like the city elf. Still, I suppose sexual jealousy is provoking to me. Someone murders my entire family and takes my estate, meh. Someone kidnaps my wife, I want to kill the jerk!!!

The three characters I've completed the game with so far are Human Noble (Male), Dwarf Noble (Male) and City Elf (Female), though I have plenty of other characters partially completed.

The reason I completed with those three is simply that I found their stories more interesting. The Human Noble was simply the first character I tried and was my 'figuring out the game' character, but his is an epic tale of revenge, which I loved. The City Elf seemed like it would be a better story told through the eyes of the bride rather than the groom, and I created a tough as nails duel wielder with an utter hatred of humans. She's awesome. The Dwarf Noble is a disinherited prince who's exiled from his own people and that's always huge fun. Really adds meaning to all the politics in Orzammar, too.

The Mage (Female) I'm fairly close to completion with, but I've got several characters on the go, which is fairly normal, for me. I tend to add characters as I get a new idea (Or install new mods to mess around with) and those characters will be totally as the mood takes me - male or female and any origin. I don't think I've ever really got a handle on the Dwarf Commoner at all, though, if I'm honest...
